Kicking around suiciding ideas..

Going to shave/ repaint my car... and I'm thinking about suiciding the rear doors. I WISH I had a nice flat area to work with like on the rear of s10s and stuff... but alas it's a passenger car with a nice goofy door jamb.

It would be nice if the two verticle faces that meet up (where the stricker and latch are) were closer to the edge... then the "end mount hinge" from
http://www.streetdreamsbyross.com/hinges_suicide.php would work nicely. However.. if I did that I think the door wouldn't clear the fender at all.

So here's some paint pics I messed with a bit to get and idea of what I had to do..

I plan to cut into the car side of the jamb, and basically weld in a nice verticle plate, and fill in all where necessary. The hinge will mount onto the verticle plate, as pictured... not sure just how deep the box will have to go. Might fit without cutting into the layer with the striker pin.. might need to cut into that layer.

For the door, I plan on cutting out a hole on near the rear edge, and then welding a mounting plate that should line up pretty close with the green dot'd surface. (of course it will all depend on how the hinge sit against it.. but that's the main idea overall). From there it would pretty much be a matter of boxing that mounting plate into the rest of the door so it's mounted nice and strong... then adding bracing to the door and rear of the jambs as needed, to eliminate sag.

That's the idea anyways... anyone ever installed suicide doors on a 4 door similar to this? Any suggestions on how to do it differently? Will this even work? I'm still not 100% on it.. hmm.

I agree with the jeans, especially when they are ripped at purchase, that is d-bag status.

Re: Kicking around suiciding ideas..

Thanks for the help guys!

I wear sandals because they comfortable... any other suggestion on what to wear in the summer? When I changed my friend's headgaskets my mechanic's outfit was basketball shorts and sandals. Very professional, lol.

The jeans were just what was on clearance at hollister, meh. My non-pre-ripped jeans have just as many holes in them from use anyways though.
