Ben Hur

Okay, well maybe not quite the same, but it's the first time I've been asked to build a chariot! Nothing tooooo exciting, but different than the usual at least. Overall dimensions: seat is 48" x 28," the handlebars are about 6' out in front of the seat. 16" bicycle wheels which will get tires, customer was still trying to find the ones he wanted.

Customer belongs to the UNM Alumni and the fraternity that he was in hosts olympic games and one of the events is a chariot race. One guy is strapped to the seat and two guys pull/push it 50 yards, go around a cone and back 50 yards. Handlebars are an odd shop because the inside guy more or less "swings/slides" the chariot around the cone. Having the extra bends is supposed to help with the way he slides the chariot.

Re: Ben Hur

Woot, the guys I made the cart for took first place! Made a few changes to the cart after I posted the picture above. I wasn't able to see the race in person, but one of the guys who asked me build the cart took video. So as soon as he sends it to me, I'll get it posted! The race ended up being 50 yards and back and they did it in just over 16 seconds.
