Standard or Extended Cab?

Is there a difficulty differnece as far as a traditional body drop goes? I am in search of a project truck and cannot decide which one would be easier as it would be my first BD. The thing that i am stumped on is the cut lines from the firewall to the doors and from the doors to the back of the cab. Pics are welcome!

Re: Standard or Extended Cab?

I did both this winter, there really isnt that much of a difference except the extra metal to cut and weld on the ext cab. I am very glad however that my truck is an ext cab because i can lean my seat back more to compensate for the loss of headroom but thats more of a personal preference I guess.

Figured that they wouldn't be too much different. What did you do about the third seat?

Which one looks the best you think? I like the ext. cabs cause the look long compaired to the std. but std. is cool just cause it is a std. cab.

Third seat would probably still fit but I am not puttin em back in because I am gonna fiberglass the interior pieces that cover em and have them covered, I never use them because of my massive speaker box so I dont see any reason in puttin em back in really. I have just always loved the look of an ext cab truck but I think std cabs look really good as well.

Re: Standard or Extended Cab?

Yeah ross it kinda is. You gotta sand it and shit after. Then you gotta paint it or it will look like shit.

Some people plastic weld the bottom plastic of the seat so then you don't have to fiberglass it.

I was just foolin around. lol. Man i am only like 5-7. I like the extended cab room but the std. cabs are cool cause there like tiny inside and look really small on the ground. I also like the feeling of being packed into the car. That why mini>fullsize i think. I dunno, either one would be sweet to have.

Re: Standard or Extended Cab?

go for the ext. cab. I'll never own a regular cab again.

but if you want room, stockfloored ext. cabs are nice. Mine is just like getting in/riding in any other ext. cab stock truck. other than the roof being chest high.

Re: Standard or Extended Cab?

how do you cut around the middle cab mount on the ext. cabs? I have never seen a picture on how someone has done it.

don't cut the mount on the frame. just use a short sawzall blade and cut through the part of the cab where the bushing/bolt is

Re: Standard or Extended Cab?

the area on ext. cabs where the bodymount is you can't really do much of an angle on the filler plates. You can angle them beside the front seat, but you'll have a pretty much vertical filler where the bodymount is, then back to angled ones where the 3rd door is

Re: Standard or Extended Cab?

One thing I don't understand with the ext. cab is where the jump seats are. I've been looking for pictures of how people cut that part but no one ever shows it. Do you have to shorten the back interior pieces?

It depends on how you do the back. If you cut in towards the cab after the middle bodymount i don't think you need to worry about the plastic. I may be wrong but I have seen pics. Ill try to find some.

Re: Standard or Extended Cab?

I found some pics from Draggin97's project thread. He has an ext. cab. But he did straight fillers.
