Re: So I finally started...

I am going to keep sanding away, get them as smooth as I can. Then I will get them painted. Color? Probably a mix of blue/black. Parts of it are smooth enough as it is, just a couple rough spots to get sanded down.

ive done tons of covering of suede, u just gotta be patient and take your time if you want to get all the wrinkles out, suede usually have some stretch to it so before you put the glue down make sure you know your starting point and how your going to lay it down.

Ill wrap some of the other stuff in suede, the smaller, easier stuff hehe. I am going to attempt to get this smooth, so that I can have painted door panels! Your panels are my inspiration lownslo.

Being completely honest it's partly my reasoning behind initially considering sueding. I know it's going to take a while, I was just really tired of doing it that day lol.

Steve(83blaerlaydout) just smoothed a kids interior on his blazer and shot it all black in Matts(locaprice) garage and it turned out great. I cant wait to do mine. Suede is for seats/headliners, paint FTW!!

Re: So I finally started...

So, after one layer of the maxim, one layer of the everglass, and two layers of filler, it is coming along nicely (I think). I decided I'd spray some primer on it, just to define where exactly needs more work. The entire panel is going to be have to sanded over and over again, so i figured why not! I was pleasantly surprised to see that there really isn't much that needs to be finished around the baffle. There are some high spots, and some low spots still remaining, but very minimal. The primer is dark, so it almost makes the panel look done hehe. I do think this looks better than the baffle just coming through the hole, the gradual curve that I created looks quite nice, almost like General Motors intended to put an 8 inch woofer in the door, with almost 4 inches of clearance

Now with my header issue. I lost the invoice for the heddman ones, so I called Summit. I swear, Summit and Jegs are the way I would run a business, customer satisfaction has to be one of the main points of their Mission statement. All you have to do is write your name and other vitals on a piece of paper and a reason for your return, if you want an exchange, just put the summit part number you want. I am going to get the advance adapter ones, but not in chrome. I am going to get a collector welded on where I need it, then get them coated, jet hot more than likely. I was quite surprised yesterday, my girlfriend asked me when I think I can honestly get the truck done, if I really worked on it. I had to tell her that I couldn't really give an answer for that, since I have never done anything this drastic and I really don't have any idea how many little things are going to set me back. In my mind, it should be able to be done in a few months once back from paint. In my dads (he has done this WAY too many times) it's going to take a good year from now lol. I asked her why she would ask something like that? lol Her response: "I want to go to some car shows!"

That door's turning out nice Kenny. I agree, the radius almost looks factory. Can't wait to see a speaker in there.

Re: So I finally started...

Cool. And what primer is that? It looks like almost an exact match to the stock grey. Pretty sweet for mockup interior work.

Re: So I finally started...

some stupid sandable primer from duplicolor we had sitting in the garage lol. I don't know how old it is but it was brand new, and sprayed nicely. It is almost the same color, that's the only reason I kept spraying as I initially only intended to put it on one part to see how it looked. lol I got excited. I have since sanded it all off, and it filled MOST if not all of the sanding marks that were there, thing feels smooooooth. I think I am going to work on the texture in the panel tomorrow, I remember how fun that is from my bezel I did in the S-10. I know it's been done NUMEROUS times, but how does the fabric part come off the top of the panel?

That's no good! I ran out to the auto parts store, got me some more 60 grit and started working on the rest of the door. The 60 grit can do a number on the panel thats for sure, I have hit about half the remaining plastic with the 60, and I will do the rest later. After that I will gradually get at it with some 100, 120, 220, and then primer!

Sorrrry today was a pretty boring day. I hit the top part with the 60 grit, and then got called to go golfing. I cannot pass up 18 holes of golf for 10 dollars! Then I ended up at a friends house for about two hours. Tomorrow I shall have some updates.
