sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
I know I know search lol I've been searching for the past hour or 2 probably and my a** is getting numb lol. I finally got me a mini(1991 s10) I'm going to start collecting parts soon to bag and sfbd it. I would like to tuck 20"s but 18"s will work too and I want to keep heat and ac. I KNOW I SAW A COUPLE OF POSTS that were just this showing pics and everything people explaining how to and now when i want to save the pics and links i can't find a damn one lol. please help me out. I'm just trying to get most research out of the way while i can. I know some things you can't just learn from reading which is why me and my friend(the best welder I know) are doing it ourselves. hopefully within the next year we will have 2 first gen dimes bagged/sfbd all custom no bolt on and both daily draggers. Thanks for the help guys, btw you'll probably be reading alot more from me and any south nj locals will probably be seeing me around(new to mini's i currently daily drive a 6spd 02 trans am ws6).

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
like vintage air? or stock stuff?
if you wanna keep stock stuff, you'll have to run a baby wheel/tire. or you can get the vintage air, and put it under your dash |

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
for the removal of a headach and to keep a clean fire wall go with a vintage air ( a breeze to install) the kits are around 600 i have found them for as cheap as like 440 but if you just want to keep the factory stuff good luck with that. im doing my body drop now so i been looking up alot of theads if i see something I will pop it on here.

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
i could have swore the one i saw had atleast one guy that did it using his stock stuff but custom made the blower housing and was dragging with 20s.
if you wanna keep stock stuff, you'll have to run a baby wheel/tire. or you can get the vintage air, and put it under your dash what do you conisder a baby tire? and i guess i'll start doing some research on the vintage air |

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
i'm not really looking to do that kind of work, i was thinking about making a custom blower housing like i saw on here at one point but i don't feel like relocating everything under the dash. whats the biggest rim/tire i can run bagged/bodydropped with heat and ac? i've been trying to search and haven't found anything yet.

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
this I'm not sure of.. but worth a thought!!
i was told by someone once that we can fit a trailblazer heater system in the truck.. which is they don't have a big blower box sticking out into the engine bay.. which means you can run heat and air... maybe worth some research |

Im sure with enough time and patience if you slide the cab back around a inch or so you would be off to a good start and have more room to work with.

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
well you usually move the cab back 3/4 inch to center out the wheels, wouldnt be much more room, def not for a bigger tire size, either way you'll have to tub

if you put all the wiring under the dash, a unit from a trailblazer might not fit...

i doubt im going to try and tuck a trailblazer climate control system under the dash on the first bag/body drop i ever do so how big of rims/tire can i run and keep the blower where its at? i may remove the ac but only if i have to(its ugly anyway)

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
if all your look for is heat, then you can run any size you want and do something along the lines of what im doing.
Take the heater core out of the vent box. built a sheet metal box for it, holes on one side, E-fan on the other. If you get a good enough fan you could even run it up to the defrost and so on. Last edited by Redd; 12-03-2008 at 10:28 PM. |

I'd probably only run defrost and maybe floor because all i really care about is cleaning the windows but sometimes my toes are cold lol. do you have any pics of how your doing this or of someone else that already did it or what would i search for to look this idea up? |

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
thought of it myself....
well when I had my Ford lightning I took a ranger heater core and made a box for it to add inline to the water intercooler system for the supercharger. The box was for when i went to the track i could leave the electric pump going to keep the fluid moving and fill the box up with ice to help keep things cool between runs... Only other thing youd need is a manual valve from an older truck to regulate the flow through the heater core. Ill get pics later when im not on my phone |

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
thanks that sounds like it wouldnt be too hard. why would you need a valve to regulate flow through the heater core? i've never seen any valves for the stock heater core.

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
the valve is to regulate how much coolant goes through the heater core. Old vehicles it was cable operated. So the more the valve is open the more heat you would get. Close it and less heat or close it completely for no heat.
I'm at my gfs new apt so I can't post a pic yet but I'll have one later tonight of the valve |

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
Heres a valve im talking about. They have manual ones with just a pull cord or electric like the one pictured hear. Same kind of valves used on vintage air, etc.
Im getting something similar to this, co-workers wife works for a company cald OLD AIR PRODUCTS. Im going to do this till i get tired of no a/c and will buy a system from them. ![]()

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
idk but i pretty much have a general idea of what i'm doing. i'm sure when i actually start doing it all i'll run into a problem and ill be right back here lol. mine wont be done for a few months because i need to buy everything and pay off some credit card debt lol. but i'll be sure to post a build up on my buddies truck(88?maybe short cab short bed) he'll be laying rocker on 20's keeping heat for a daily dragger. he ripped the bed off sometime last week and than the truck sat a few days, than monday i went to his house we ripped off the front end and last night we tore the cab off by hand lol. i think tonight we're gonna start tearing into the suspension and maybe do the notch. this kid is one hell of a welder so we're pretty much doing the whole truck custom.

bichen60 is do you lay that truck on rocker? what size tires are you runnin? that looks like a real nice set up, is that a custom firewall or is it just modified where you needed to modify it? i like the way your engine bay looks.

Re: sfbd keeping heat and ac??? i swear i saw a post
thats the factory fire wall that has just been shaved then the hole for the blower box was moved, truck is only on 18s right now but i think with a little more work you could do it on 20s would just have to plan out the blower box different.

do you have any pics of the truck laid out? i was thinking about just doing 18s because it would be easier to lay out and still look good.
