Re: [Project] Orange Sonoma Resurrection

More pics..

Finished the tranny crossmember. Added in a section of 3.5" OD tubing for the exhaust cut thru. The bottom of the tubing is even with the rails but the top is .5" higher but thats no problem since I have to rework the floor anyway.

Finished the notch, plated the frame where the tubing meets.

Hey Dave...do you work on weekends? I gotta get 10 more hours of cross country flight time in for my flight course and its about 5 hours each way from me to you. I could fly out on a Friday morning, help ya work all weekend, and then go back Sunday evening/night. Maybe plan a get together with the millions of NJ guys for when I'm there too? Let me know if that could possibly work some weekend in the next 7 to 8 weeks.

well...I gotta get the 10 hours in and I figure, why not come help you out since you need it? I'd probably only be able to fly out once, because after that I'd have my 10 hours in and my parents won't pay for stuff that's not for school . But yeah...maybe then you could see how I work and maybe about something for summer. Let me know...PM me with some weekends that work for you and I'll see if they work for me. I could possibly stay through monday too, depending if I can get out of one of my monday classes.

Re: [Project] Orange Sonoma Resurrection

well it just sits in that section of 2.5" tubing that i cut at an angle, and then a bolt runs thru it to keep it from walking. btw make the crossmember 1/4" shorter than the frame so you can get it in and out.

i was thinking about welding 2 pieces of angle iron vertically on each frame rail. Then sliding the crossmember in between those pieces and bolting it with 2 bolts on each side through both pieces of angle and the 2x3 crossmember. Then i can just drop it straight down if needed just by undoing the bolts. think that would work?

that would work and itll be easy to get out, but all the weight would be on those bolts so use some high grade stuff.

Re: [Project] Orange Sonoma Resurrection

because hes using a bolt-in rear kit and stock tank so id have to duplicate all those mounts plus the bed mounts and that would be more work that just notching the frame.

Re: [Project] Orange Sonoma Resurrection

More work got done tonight..finished the drivers side frame horn. I had to cut it off the frame and lower it because the great fabricator Buddy welded it on at 2 3/8" drop for some reason. And it was crooked. So I lowered it down to 3" then sectioned 3/4" out of the mount to make up for the 3/4" I moved the other body mounts back. I also sloped the top plate for better clearance at the radiator and welded in new lower gussets.

Also painted the frame. I went with a dark metallic gray finish rather than the normal black. I think it looks nice but it doesnt really matter what color it is since nothings going to be seen anyway heh.
