Project my girlfriend talked me into it

After much talking about BD'ing my truck with friends etc, my girl finally talked me into it. I have never done this before, but have done quite a bit of reading andhave been usind different threads from Wicked94, Redd, Ricky etc... to kind of grasp wtf i am doing.

The plan is traditional to the rockers. Then I will have to do something about the bed, and I need to figure out my hood.

And since she talked me into this, she is DW'ing with me we have been at it for a couple weekends now.

On to the pics:

Re: Project my girlfriend talked me into it

since the rockers were cooked, as well as the DS cab corner I decided to replace those before i started to cut up the cab at all.

Re: Project my girlfriend talked me into it

Cut the pinch off, drilled the spotwelds, marked where i wanted to splice in on the PS and went at it.

Re: Project my girlfriend talked me into it

then we laid out the floor cuts. I cut anticipating laying the fillers back 1.5". But, I screwed up with the first cut on the sides. I set the cut too close to the sill, and cut right through the threaded fitting for the seatbelt bolt. So I will be moving those.

For the firewall, I have to move so much stuff around because of the V8, it is going to just be easier to rebuild the firewall. But I didnt hack the whole firewall out-I will section it out piece by piece, so I have a referenc of where GM had located stuff on the firewall.

Re: Project my girlfriend talked me into it

I got the DS tub in place yesterday... cut most of the ds firewall out.
I am going to finish the fillers on the sides and then get to work on finishing the tubs and the firewall.
My biggest issue right now is making room for the distributor, and still keeping wipers.

Flattie- do you have any pics of how you rebuild the cab mounts?

I love those damn wheels. Sucks the bigger IROCS all have the front backspacing (4.75"), or I would be running 18/20's.

The plan for paint is the factory color. It is the color I shot the engine bay, "gold nugget metallic". I am going back to stock badges, rubber molding etc..

Re: Project my girlfriend talked me into it

I got the DS tub in place and tacked in. Lost my manual kick panel vents which I am not too happy about. Started to get my DS sill fillers done as well. Then I ran out of gas.

Right now I am a 25.5" tire, so I set the tubs so I could go to a 26.5" tire with room to spare.

Thanks a lot Wicked.

Being a full time employee and part time student my weekdays are taken-so I can only work on this thing on weekends... but I hope to have some good updates by the end of the weekend.

Nice progress man! That's really cool that your girl is that supportive. My wife didn't want me to bd mine. I started cutting it when she was at work one day, and she came home and was SO pissed.

Keep up the good work!

Re: Project my girlfriend talked me into it

I got some stuff done this weekend. I got the PS filler panels in and welded, the DS fillers in and tacked, the back wall is in and tacked as well. I also got the framehorns dropped:

I may have to shim the fender a little, but IDK yet. I dont have the bushings in the hinge pins, so once they are in it may help to straighten the body line up a little

Also, does anyone know if the 4.3 acessory brackets move the Alt down at all? It looks like it is going to be up through the hood..

i dont think u will have to worry about the alt. i run a 2" cowl and had to trim inner structure a bit, i even have the same aircleaner, but also depends on which motor mounts u have

thanks. Its hard to tell without throwing the DS fender on it. But I still need to trim back the tub so the fender will go back on.

I have no idea which mounts I have- I am really thinking of grabbing a good set-ones that I can move the motor more to the PS with.

Re: Project my girlfriend talked me into it

small update... got the cab off and the firewall cut completley out. Moved the wiper motor over 3" so it would clear the valvcover. I got both tubs in now. I think I set them too far into the cab because I had to rebuild the gutters insided the cowl. I also have the PS of the firewall totally tacked in, but only the DS firewall for the brake master. I need to set the cab back on the frame and position the column so I can tack that in. Then I just have a bunch of welding to do....

if the column drops down it is in the #7 primary tube on the header. I have to drop it a little and move it outwards a little.

I hope to have the cab finish welded this weekend, and the firewall at least toatlly built. I am shooting to have it driveable (not including having the bed back on) by May. We will see..
