Keeping stock hood.... Pictures 2.2L

Ok.. Everyone always wants to know easiest way to keep stock hood. THere are different ways..

But I went the way of installing the cavailer intake manifold. My truck is a 98 2.2L... the cav intake came off a 2001 2.2L car.

Here are pictures of it all.

everyone knows the stock one.. big box on top of the motor

Here is the stock one pulled off
.. it comes of rather easy... it is time consuming..but nothing hard about it.. just unbolt ALOT of things.

Here is the cav. intake manifold
... it buts the TB down on the pass. side of the motor

Here are pictures installed...
... again.. time consuming.. All bolts right back up. Use stock TB. I had to lengthen 2 electrical wires just cuz i was kinda lazy and didnt feel like making it work..

LOok how much it took off the top of the motor..

Here are pictures with a hood on. THis hood is my buddies. He gave it to me.. I just put it on to make sure it all fit before i brought mine down from upstairs. Plus you can see how much room I have with the motor..... THe dipstick MIGHT need sectioned down. I will see when I put my hood on.. But it will be close.. Everythng else fits for sure!!

I would do it if you wanted to run stock hood.. Well worth the effort!!!!

Re: Keeping stock hood.... Pictures 2.2L

now you just need a "stock hood' with no holes in it, looks damn good other wise. How many inches did it shrink down?

Heres how you do it on a 94-97 2.2

ha.. yea that is part of the egr vavle. I just put a block off plate on it. i think the xtremes run the plate. its a standard part GM sells.

as far as clutch stuff.. all that is going behind the firewall. I havn't worked on it in awhile. just a mock up.. i plan to get back on that project soon

Re: Keeping stock hood.... Pictures 2.2L

Only thing you forgot to add about this install was that the guys with factory upper arms will have to cut out a section of their a-arm to clear the manifold for when it's laid out. Seeing as you got aftermarket arms you didn't have any clearance issue's.

ah.... very true.. I did forget to mention that. stock arms will need modification to fit when laid out

a how to?.. this is kinda like one. You dont need ever step into doing this. Just shows yea what your getting into with the cavalier intake.

My method only works with a 3" and 2.75" body drop. Anymore and you run into other things on the manifold (it just wont work lol)

Re: Keeping stock hood.... Pictures 2.2L

I dont know if anyone cares... But yesterday I decided I wanted to see how the A/C pump fit. It didnt the pulley itself hit the hood. But I think there is about a 1/2" of clearance between the power steering pump pulley and the a/c pulley. So at some point i am going to slot the holes and try to lower it down and clear. If that doest fit. I am going to try to machine like a 1/4" off of the a/c pulley

YES IT WILL FIT. MINE IS SUPER CLOSE BUT FIT.

JUST BE SURE WHEN YOU EGG OUT THE MOUNTING HOLES FOR THE SANDEN, MOUNT IT AS LOW AS POSSIBLE.

It actually all depends on the size of your drop. Anything bigger than 3" usually rules out a stock hood without some motor mount mods

with the cav in take... i am willing to bet.. that you could door it... unless there is something i don't know about.. but you can see with the pictures with the tape measure... the highest part of the motor would be the vavle cover.. and that is 4'' from the top of the hood... and im b/d 3''

edit:.. now i read.. i think your talking about the edc.. o well..

Re: Keeping stock hood.... Pictures 2.2L

um it wasnt for me. i had to make a new clutch pedal/and bracket to hold it . and of course move it up and back/angel . it was all dirt biked out there. felt like a kick start harley. so i had to make a new pedal to clear the fire wall tubs.

a tranny swap 30 min since the truck is already up on stands. i pulled the colum out to put a tilt in so i swaped that out any way. i moved the ecu and wires on the inside of the firewall any way so pluging a new one in would have been eazyer.

my tranny is going to crap out on me soon enough any way last time i changed the fluid a chunk of a gear fell out .might have been a sinkcro? it does like to pop out of third some times lol.

Re: Keeping stock hood.... Pictures 2.2L

stock arms need to be modified pretty good amount.. There is a guy on here running stock arms and cavi intake.. i woudln't trust it.. its alot..

the egr port is driver side on the manifold just below the TB... yo will probably have to get a longer "tube" to make it fit... I just blocked mine off! they say it will run alittle rougher but I didn't notice any difference or anything that would make me wonder about driving it.

GM sells a block off plate.. go there and tell them u want a block off plate for the egr vavle.. I don't throw any codes.. but i don't know if my system is working 100% either....

to asnwer ?.. can be done on stock arms... my recomendation.. block off plate

you will also need a new throttle cable... lokar 36" universal cable from summit works well.. i ran it along with alot of other guys
