Jays 97 Stepside Bagged/Bodydropped
For the past few months I've been working on my buddy Jays stepside after work. It was completed for ITB but I'm just getting around to posting pics of it now. I didn't take a lot of build pics, the things Ive done have been posted many times before. Heres the rundown on the truck:
- 1997 2.2L Std cab Stepside - Setup for 18s - Sanden 508 - 5 gal chrome tank - 3/8" SMCs - 3" bodydrop - Superlift wishbone 3link w/ RE7s - RCI 17gal fuel cell - MSD 2225 fuel pump - Stock spindles w/ Dominator 2500s - SD control arms with sway bar and shocks - Factory heat retained with new blower box - Painted Eastwood single stage flat urethane - "Basket Case Blue" Below is shot of the frame transition from the 3x3 to the stock clip. The top and outside have been plated for strength. Body mount has been moved down 2", back 3/4", and in 1/4" (because of the angle of the frame). Shock mounts are recessed 3/8" for added clearance. Also pictured is a shot of the motor mounts, the motor was lowered 3/4" to clear the stock hood. Obviously where its welded is where I cut and sectioned the material out. In theory the motor can come down a full 1" but then the pan will be touching the ground. |

Re: Jays 97 Stepside Bodydrop
Random sheetmetal pics, the floors have been beadrolled, firewalll shaved, factory wire harness eliminated and relocated, stock heat retained. Clutch master moved up and angled for clearance, required the cowl to be cut into.

Re: Jays 97 Stepside Bodydrop
Engine bay pics. As you can see, or not see, basically all wires have been rerouted inside the cab and come out firewall grommets for the necc engine components. Ebay $30 intake cut up, swap meet booster and master, Sanden 508 in stock a/c location.
Threw a close up of the clutch master, and also of the heat-only blower box I made for the truck. |

Re: Jays 97 Stepside Bodydrop
Rear setup. Pretty basic and clean, superlift wishbone kit I built with Slam Re7s, SK logo welded in, Hurculiner, trap door for fuel cell.
The rear bed floor is stock height, the front has been raised 2.5", you can tell from the side shots, but the sheetmetal was all reworked so it looks factory with no seams. |

Quick interior shot, nothing going on in there yet but a billet wheel and shifter.

Re: Jays 97 Stepside Bagged/Bodydropped
as always great work man. can't wait to start my body drop. I'm running my fuel cell the same way with the same fuel pump.
quick question: have you had any problems with that style pump hooked to stock wiring? Mine keeps locking up so i bought a new one and it now seems like low voltage. i've thought bout putting it on a relay but would really like to fix the issue |

thanks fellas. everything seems fine on the pump man, throw the relay on it if you think thats the problem, certainly wont hurt anything.

Re: Jays 97 Stepside Bagged/Bodydropped
What did you do for fittings on the EDC? I havent had much luck other than people telling me they tapped them to 3/8. I didnt have much luck with that. I thought about getting a bung and welding it to the head but...

Re: Jays 97 Stepside Bagged/Bodydropped
the blower motor is just a stock non-a/c unit, the a/c motor has a deeper fan blade and i wanted as much clearance as possible.
for the Sanden, theres no easy way to do it. try to find a local parts store that makes a/c lines and hydraulic lines. the discharge is a -6 a/c fitting, have them use a universal ferrel and crimp a 3/8" hydraulic hose onto it. the a/c fitting has 2 barbs which will make it extremely difficult for the hose to go on, you can cut the first barb off if you like, it wont matter to the line. the suction is a -8 fitting. the other way is to get the a/c fitting and cut the crimp end off and use a compression fitting on the steel tube thats left. youll see that way more often because its hard to find shops that will crimp, it will work fine but its just not as "strong" ya know. |

Didn't read to see if anyone asked.
Looks great but whats up with the bed. Did those forward side steps cave in from lay'n it out on uneven pavement or something? Just curious cause I've got a step side and been contiplating a BD. |
