clutch master cy?

i know its been discussed and ive searched i just need a little more help, im getting ready to attempt it soon. i was wondering how far i need to recess it into the firewall and how far i should raise it to clear 20s on a 3" b/d....its a 98 2.2. i know to use 1.5" exhaust pipe but how far should i take it in to the firewall? im sure i will have to do some work to the pedal to clear the tubs as well...any suggestions on that?

Re: clutch master cy?

honestly there isnt much room after a bd on 20's. its easier to just put it under the dash.

Re: clutch master cy?

On 20s, you would be better off reversing it to behind the dash.. If you tried to recess and angle it, 1 you would have to recess it so much that the "pushrod" would not be able to fully extend right.. and 2 it would have to be at so much of an angle that you couldnt put that much fluid in it..

Search around man, there are tons of info on how to flip it around with little fabrication.. it makes the clutch easier to push too.

yea im starting to think that may be the best idea, its gonna be a rough job tho mines a 98 so its got that big bulky metal piece that holds the brake pedals and all that. i guess i will have to cut a place out for it.

I don't remember who or what, but I saw a few pix that people posted on here of that done..

If yours is like mine, you have the ugly cast pedal bracket.. you are going to have to cut the end off where the clutch pedal is and build custom mounts for the clutch pedal.. Factory when you push on the clutch, it press the rod for the cylinder out.. When you flip the thing around under the dash, you are going to need to rebuild your clutch to where there is an anchor point for the "rod" ontop of the pivot point. That way when you push the bottom of the pedal down it will push the top part out and push on the "rod" thing..

My description is crude, I may see if I can dig up the info for ya..

Hey bob, I relocated mine inside the cab too, but be prepared to figure out how to make a new clutch line, the stock line on mine was too short, and when I went to run it inside the cab the stock line broke on me. I don't mean to take over you thread, but dose anybody have any ideas on what kind of high pressure line I can rigg up to use? Bob, here is pics of what I got done so far.

Oh, to answer your question, just drill a hole large enough on the tranny hump next to the gas pedal to run your line through. Thats how I did mine. To make the pedal work on mine I had to cut it in two different places then reweld it. Works like a dream, if I could ever find a high pressure line to use, then get it bled to drive it.

like this....

the cast piece cut up...

looking through where the clutch master goes, you can see the mount on the firewall tub...

pretty much reshaped the entire clutch pedal to fit around the firewall tub...

Any other questions?

Oh yeah, I used my stock line. I drilled a 1/2" hole in the floor right under the firewall infront of the brake pedal and it reaches.

Re: clutch master cy?

put it behind the dash its not that bad, i have done it both ways putting it on the outside of the firewall and on the inside. I made the one on the inside in 4 hrs using entirely the stock pedal, the truck was also on 20's.

Re: clutch master cy?

The main reason I had to reshape my pedal so much is because it was already modified to work with the clutch on the outside of the firewall. All I really did was replace the top part after the bend with the holes where I wanted them and extended the center section between the 2 bends about 1/2" to clear the firewall tub.

Re: clutch master cy?

through the speaker grill but you should bleed it before you put the dash in.

Re: clutch master cy?

You might want to add some braces to the "S" pedal bracket. We did that at first on mine and it wanted to bend really easy. We added acouple of cross braces to stiffen it up.

Re: clutch master cy?

Bob, I just noticed that your truck is a 98, mine is a 96, so your set up will have to be done a little different than mine. You will need to do yours like Milky4204 did his. And if you were wondering about a slave/master line, I used a SS Braided/Teflon line, and a couple of hose clamps and it worked just fine. I would highly suggest wraping the line w/some heat resistant tape also. I bought some at Auto Zone for about 20 bucks.
