Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

gangsta shit

i cut the pinch off and threw some 17s i picked up for 300 with good tires. these will be the daily wheels. youll have to wait and see what wheels i will run for shows
so scrapped my old bed because i didnt like how it turned out.
picking up another bed and 91-93 core support and solid back window sat morning. and a smooth roll pan and grant kustoms skinned tailgate on sunday
so ive got 600 into
wheels and tires
bed and coresupport and back window
and roll pan and skinned gate
i love craigslist

Looks good man. Your not leaving the gas tank in the bed are you. I hate that unless its a fuel cell.

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

looking good so far man, i really like that you are doing this all for cheap!

im on a budget build too, so seeing what you can do for so little $$$ is inspiring.

one Q... im going to BD my 92 ext. cab as well (when i feel confident enough), and was wondering why you cut out a channel in the cab for the frame?

It looks good with the wheels. I will probably regret selling them once I start driving my truck and I have to keep it locked up so I can turn.

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

you know thats gonna start some shit drew lol!!!!
the holes in the floor are cus its a stock floor body drop and that part of the floor when you lay rocker, the frame is higher than the floor so the frame comes through the cab about 1/2 of an inch

thanks again for the wheels chris.. my girl breanna didnt like em at first but when i put them on she said they look good.
les shwab is crackin down so shawn said i have to pay but he only charged me for balancing lol

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

got the bed structure almost done. i just need to add more bracing to the floor area to strengthen it. the bedsides are all supported super strong. i hate flimsy bedsides.got the roll pan started. gotta take the skin off the old gate and put it on my gate and shave the slant box. i narrowed the front of the bed to match the back pillar cuz it slants in. its not the ideal way to do it but i just want the lines to match up. so yeah the truck is slightly narrower right there but it looks better imo. and a lot easier than pie cutting the pillar and pulling it out to match the bed lol.
gonna start on the cab floor tomm. hopefully

also picked up a 91-93 coresupport so i can run this badboy

just for referance the 4runner is not lifted and is sitting on 28" tires lol
and my driveway is very slanted. nothing is bolted down onthe truck no bed bolts cab bolts or coresupport bolts

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

serioulsy thats all you have to say

so the bed i think is gonna turn out pretty sweet. my goal is to get it as close to possible to thenotch. but the frames on these curve up towards the notch. so infront of the notch the last little section has a 10* pitch upwards mostly to clear the gas tank crossmember and it clears by a 1/16th of an inch lol. and the little 8" section behind the notch has a 5* pitch upward.
and its still a foot deep bed in a mini truck so thats pretty good.

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

doesnt look any different.
but i did get all the cab mounting and core support mounts done. used four link bar ends. 3" ones on the core support and back cab and 2" ones in the front cab area.
got the bed structure all done and leveled with the cab. jsut need to get some tubs and get those in then its ready for sheetmetal.
also picked up a late model vortec 4.3 motor for 250 bucks. the whole thing even the injection which i dont need. all teh brackets and acc. has a spun rod bearing on #2.
got a 2 piece shaft. just need the th350 so i can get this all mocked up.
also just got off the phone with matt at baja customs and ordered thier set of motormounts and plates fully unwelded so i can lower the motor accordingly

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

picked up some tubs this afternoon. and got them in. good enough for a 27" tall tire with a little clearance.
so this bitch is ready for sheetmetal

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

ohh whats goin on here.
just waiting for my custom motor mounts. got the th350 hooked to the 98 4.3 vortec
then i get the motor and tranny in build my tranny crossmember. carrier bearing crossmember. yes im running a 2 piece shaft. so i can keep my bench seat with a stock floor body drop. its a ranger bench cut down 2 inches so thats why its a problem. the lower i can sit the better

carbed.
the cab and the whole truck harness came out of a 82 with a carbed 2.8 so its already setup ready to go. practically no wires at all.

well you convinced ne to do my first 1st gen. ive done 2 newer ones but i am makin the change this time. 1 question tho, even tho i cant belive how little youve spent on the build why didnt you fab up your own link kit? thats the only cost cutter i cant get past. other than that, thanks for doing good enough work for me to learn from. *subscribes

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

this build has been a budget build i got that 6 link used for 450 shipped to my door. art arms for 300 all the bags for like 150 everything you see including motor and tranny valves gauges comp tanks and i still have less than 3 grand total int he truck complete im even talking about the actual cab and frame and shit and yes i have a title.
i was actally gonna ditch teh 6 link. i even bought a tri 4 link setup. but i had already welded all the mounts and gastank x member on and the rear frame already has bag ounts and tank mounts which would be in the way for a fuel cell so i said **** it.
i dont like the 6 link it pulls my wheels about 1 1/2 inches forward the last 3 inches of lift. but i never drive more than 2 inches off the ground anyway lol so i kept it to save time mainly. it was gonna tak a lot of time to take that kit off and put a new setup on.
the 450 dollars it cost to buy the 6 link is the same amount for a good bag on bar tri four link. actually more if you figure in the cost to run a fuel cell

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

got the bed pieces all fitted today. the bottoms of front and back are all one piece even up the wall and around the square bars. caps on the ends as well to give it a more complete look and its nicer because i dont have to weld the edges down. ill take more pics when i start to weld it all in and itwill give you a better idea of what im saying.
