Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

Shawn called me about that frame when it was on CL, but I didn't have any use for it. This build is looking good. I just wish I could get work done that fast. I've been working on mine for 2 1/2 years now and I still haven't driven it further than around the block.

so my hood to fender gap is bigger on pass side then driver side. the driver side is perfect but the pass side is a little big..
and my ****ing bed wont line up with the cab.. sticks out way to much onthe driver side but the cab isnt finished yet.. so ill do with that later..

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

IMO s10s body fitment is junk from the factory. I wouldnt worry about it to much, it took me forever to get my front end lined back up and it still bugs me around the cowl/hood area. ANd first gen beds look funky stock too, with how much work you have going on its normal. A little tweak here adn there and a few beers and a while of staring it will fix it up lol.

anyways progress looks great diggin the frame alot

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

i totally feel you on teh staring at it part. everytime im done cleaning the garage i just sit there and brainstorm what im gonna do and how im gonna do it for the next day of work lol i might have acutally bolted teh front part of the bed down in the wrong holes lol. but beds are easily tweakable. and the hood to fender gap im not too worried about

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

thanks man
so im kinda torn on what size wheels and tires to run on this thing.. now that i see how it lays out on the tires that are on it. i kinda dont want that size its a little big in front...
at first i was gonna run 18/20 then 20/20 now im back to 18/20 lol
breanna and i dont like skinny tires.. so thats why im back to the 18/20 combo
this is what i have now 205/75/15 on 3 corners and a 205/70/15 on one of the fronts.
i think im gonna run thisfront- 225/45/18 26" or 225/40/18
and in the back either a 245/45/20 28.6" or a 245/40/20
this what the tires on it now look like.. an din back i cant really run much bigger thana 28" tire thats where the bed starts to curve..
205/75/15 27"

205/70/15 26.3"

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

jesus dood, slow down a little bit. Making myself as well others look bad. Looks good though. I also hate BD beds. Everyone says its the easiest part but of course i found the cab was easier then the bed. I actually BD the stock bed and i was so unpleased that i cut it in half and tossed it and got another bed and did the BD over again.

Do you prime your trucks at your place or do you have someone else do it at a shop or something? Also do you have the 4.3? IF so how are you gonna get it under the hood. Ive heard many diff ways around it but non sound very promising. I never get a solid answer from anyone.

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

thanks guys
about the hood.. i dont have a motor yet.. i wanted to run a carbed 4.3 but there so hard to find at decent prices that i will prolly run a 283 or 350 carbed. that way i can keep it under the hood, since i only went 3 inches with the bd.
are you keeping the tailgate. i think im gonna go full skin out back with leds. the bed is so low laid out theres no point in having a tailgate..
i do all my spraying at my garage until it comes time for base and clear. i take that to a shop.
i sprayed my 05 at my buddys place and paid a guy to come help me and the only part of the truck that didnt get tiger striped was the side i painted.. so after i fix it im gonna have it comp. re painted in spring. maybe get soem wheels for it to help sell it

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

Actually i wanted the tailgate really bad but just put the skin on it but it was easier to get the whole skin combo so i welded that on instead. I like the look of stock tails more then shaving them so im keeping them. Way down the road i wanna prime it some color so i dont have a blue cab white bed. Mabey down the road i could pay you to do it or help or something. I dont have a place to do paint work. Plus i hate that shit.

i went 3.5" so it sticks threw my hood pretty good. I wanted to do a 350 really bad but i had so much money dumped into the 4.3 it would be stupid to ditch it. Plus there great motors anyways.

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

id love to keep the 4.3 too thats whats in her dime right now.. she doesnt need a 350. plus i moved the cab back one inch so theres that much less room. then iwould have to deal with the steering in the way and shit.. i just dont want to **** with it.. i might get a vortech and a stand alone managment system to run it.. but thats a long ways away so well just have to see.
im not too far from you maybe like 3 miles. we should get together and check out eachothers trucks..

and yeah we can prime your cab or bed. no biggie. get that thing drivable and well take care of it.

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

i dunno if this is a stupid question, mabey i didnt read something earlier in the thread but i thought you were bagging and sfbd'ing her black truck. But you bought a frame, bed, cab etc...and you were talking about not knowing what motor you wanted to put in it. That black truck should have had everything you needed.

???

the plan orig was to build a complete rolling chassis with gas tank fuel brake lines everything finished as much as possible then swap teh cab and mtor..

but then i realized i didnt want to have her truck down that long..
i only have like 1200 dollars into all the susp. including the 6 link and arms and bags air managment..
then the fraem was 400 with drop spindles and hubs..
as i put the rolling chassis together.. i realized it woudl be much easier to just build a whole different truck then sell hers when were done..
i already had a bed that i got in the summer from pull aprt for 100 bucks..
then i found the cab on craigslist.. the guy said if i come pull it hell give it to me with teh title for 100 bucks lol..
so now i ahv ea complete rolling chassis and cab iwth harness for under 2000 total. when the weather gets better lol.. im gonna get a gas tank and all the hard brake lines and fuel lines from pulla part. then ijust need a bench seat new windows 700r4 and a fresh 4.3.. i hope to be driving this thing to sittin pretti it will be in white primer.. btu the frame and susp will all be powdercoated

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

ohh and how does everybodys first gen bed fit.. mine no matter what i do sticks a little bit out on either side of the cab when its centered. and when its flush on one side it sticks out a lot on the other.. and it really pisses me off. i notice that the end of the cab past the door rolls in a little behind the cab.. prolly making it look worse than it really is.. and it looks worse i think because i moved the cab back 3/4". im thinkng of sectioning the front of the bed to narrow it a little to make it flush then building a whole new sheetmetal floor.

I ended up drilling my frame hole a bit more and moving my bed toward the passenger side to help this problem looks better but still not perfect.

i read his thread he actually widened the bed a little bit.. he had the opposite problem we are having.. then he filled the surrounding areas with lead body filler to make it perfect

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

oh i gotcha now, thats pretty sweet uve managed to do all this with little money. I have a bench seat that is flawless out of my roomates 83 ranger. The bench is sweet, i cut all the mounts so it will mount as low to the floor as possible. its flawless other then the fact then i notched the middle bottom of the bench for the drive line tunnel. It just needs to be wrapped. you can have it for free. Its just sitting in my garage wasting space. I switched to bomber seats cuz i wanted every ounce of head room i could possibly get since i did a traditonal BD.

Now that i think about it. I had the newer 89-93 dash also that i threw out cuz i have a sheet metal dash now. I just throw away what i know im not using cuz i need all the space i can get in my garage.

Also, i have a brand new all chrome 91-93 sonoma grill i got from LMC and i dont want it anymore. Let me know if your interested at all.

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

i wil gladly take that bench off your hands and its even more badass that its been cut down so i will sit even lower inthe s10.. people will think im a midget lol
why dont you want that grill.. ill take it what you want.. or trade
on another note me and buddy tore it up all over maltby tonight on his 4wd quads rode for 40 miles around town just doing 4wd drifts everywhere
and im keeping the old dash i love it way more than any other s10 dash

i figured it out.. if you look at the end of the cab.. that last little cab corner sucks in towards the middle fo the truck making it look like the bed sticks out from many angles..
but from straight on by the headlight its fine.. but one step out and bam it its all ****ed up lol

Re: building a sfbd rolling chassis for the girls 1st gen dime

That makes sense but then how come you've never noticed it stock? I know i havent, or at least not as bad as what it looked like after BD'ing it?

As for the grill, and bench...ill have to stop by some time after this billard calms down a lil bit. If your willing to help me out on my truck sometime then we can work something out with the grill n shit.
