Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

flipped the frame over to weld some stuff on the bottom yesterday. I got a couple pics of the frame on the ground with some tires on the rear end to get an idea of what it'll look like layed out. Hopefully on wendesday i will go over and finsh up a few filler pieces on the bottom of the frame, and then we can get crackin' on installing the 4 link.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

pics from yesterday. sorry, i was at school before..couldn't upload any pics.
I think it looks pretty badass now that it all flows together with the old clip, and the gussets round things out pretty nicely.

I also found out that an astro van 700rf4 transmission is the same as what i plan to use in the truck. Since I'm not sure if i can afford a decent one right now, I snagged a buddies to use so I can do the crossmember. I am wishing I would have started with an s10 front clip now, after realizing that v8's sit higher in blazers then they do in pickups. I have some extra risers welded to my crossmember that raise the motor up more for some reason. So we're gonna try to cut those off and drop the motor down.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

Coming along great. Middle of the frame where the anlged down bars tie into. How are you getting the exhaust thru there. are you just going to hole saw thru the frame and reinforce it?

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

we are not sure yet. we may actually end up cutting the middle right out of it and reinforcing it differentley because I think it could also get in the way of the driveshaft when the truck is lifted.

why dont you just get some 3 1/2" round tubing and slice open that back x member and weld in te tubing, or you could just stop the exhaust short of that back x member and throw on a turn down

btw what motor did you have in your blazer, im setting up the tranny x member and 2.8 frame mounts on my truck riiiiight now for the small block, it took some patience trying to get everything perfectly lined up and all. yours is lookin real nice though, im takin notes bc it wont be long here before cab and i will be helpin a friend build a SFBD blazer frame. keep up the good work

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

just stop it before it gets there.. that's plenty of room for exhaust, unless you're tryin to fit a cat in there too, but that probably will still be enough room.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

i want the floor in the back to follow the slope of the rails, so we may have to do something a little different if we end up cutting it out for the driveshaft. I'm Thinking of some sort of driveshaft hoop that angles with the rails that we can also mount the upper bars off of. If the driveshaft clears, i will either dump the exhaust before that area, or run tubing through it like the driveshaft x-member will be.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

hm.. could you possibly go with out one? just mount your upper bars off the side of the framerail and make them angle inwards.. might not be possible though since you have a narrowed rear clip.. its worth checkin into though..

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

Theres as many options as there is round tube available to buy. It's up to the imagination. You could do hundreds of differnt things back there. Don't let your floor determine what you wanna do. You are gonna have no room back there anyways when your done so go crazy.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

thanks guys. i've been de-motivated this weekend for some reason so far. gonna make sure to go tomorrow and finish up the bottom of the frame. won't be too exciting, but i might snap some pics anyways.
Next weekend i have friday and monday off of school as well. so 4 days to bust ass. and its my birthday next sunday too! yay for me. haha.
hopefully i can get something major done..either dropping the motor down and doint the crossmember...or putting the 4 link in..or both.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

whew bob i thought u might have vanished. haha. like i said above, progress will happen this weekend. I got 4 days off school. I want to get the lower bars tacked in, then we can see where the crossmember for the uppers needs to go. After we get that done, hopefully we can mock up the motor and see what we can do about knocking it down a couple inches. Pics will come this weekend. no worries.

yeah the 350 motor mounts that i got had two settings you could choose. i of course used the top one so the motor would sit lower. i cut off the bottom ones bc they were bottoming out on the frame when i went to drop in the motor. i used 2.8 frame mounts............are you going to try and keep yours under the stock hood?

mine only had one setting as far as i can tell....i doubt it will stay under a stock hood, but i'm gonna try my best.
