Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

yeah i lasered all the strips to match the hood contour. The strips all have holes in them. Right now i just have 3/8 rod running through the holes, with 1/2" tall stainless tube spacers between all the strips. I might try to find a way to make the grille still bolt together so that i can replace individual bars if i ever need to.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

Havent done a whole lot, got my flanges drawn up to build my headers but I cant find 3-1 collectors anywhere.

Worked on making a bench seat work around my massive tunnels. There wont be much comfort in the middle spot, but it will look like a bench at least. This was sundays project.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

really? let me know how much man. and what size tubes they accept. I want to get on my headers right away.

Shaved my handles and locks last weekend.
Just been messing with mounting up my headlights and grille this week but it turns out I pretty much have to redo my whole rad cradle to make it work. I'll post some pics when its all done.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

Well I haven't touched this thing much in the last while. I got sidetracked on my 68 datsun which I'm going to do my best to have on the road next spring and at the same time make some progress on customer vehicles.

However I did have an opportunity come up to get some work done on the blazer in exchange for some suspension work. So the blazer will be going for its first round of bodywork in a couple weeks.

I still have had no luck with 3-1 collectors.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

Badass! Thanks man I need to order a header kit for the dually from there soon anyways so I'll get 2 kits ordered up. Nice find.

Headlight are ford...but not ranger. The ranger ones arent a nice 90° corner.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

Gorgeous frame build, If I PM you my e-mail addy could I get any and every picture of the frame you've got. I'm going to SFBDing a 4WD first gen next year and am working on the frame layout now. I know the front end is going to be completley different, but I'm going full firewall back with 3x3 and am getting hung up on a clean way to do the body mounts.

Blazer is gone for bodywork. I went and had a peek the other day. The guy is doing some amazing work. This truck is a conglomeration of so many panels, and so much welding its ridiculous. He is roughing the whole truck out, then going back over everything. Its looking like I will have it back in december. I'm in no rush, just happy I found someone willing to dedicate the time that this truck needs on the body because its a mess. LOL.

Is there a reason you are sticking with a 4 x 4 front clip if you are already doing a firewall back frame??

My suggestion would be to jig up the stock frame on a table, marking out your body mounts and wheel base. Then scrap it, line up a 2wd clip and build from there back.

My floor was so rusted I just cut the whole thing out, squared the body on the frame and built my own floor and body mounts. This is the only frame I've done without a frame table and I would never do another one this way.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

eh we'll see. I've got my 68 datsun as well as the dually project to get on the road this summer. Not sure how much time or money I will have to get the blazer in a showable state just yet. I lucked out and found someone to do a good chunk of the bodywork on trade for air ride on his 57 Chevy. thats the only reason its getting touched currently. I'm in no rush, its already out-dated at this point, whats another year or 2.

There are several reasons, all handling related. The whole build is to hopefully settle a two year old bet, that looks like it's going to take another 3 years to finally cap off. I bet the guy I sold my last camaro to that I could build an SUV that could out run, out handle and all around out-perform the camaro. I've all ready got the basics lined up for converting the 4WD frame to 2WD but keeping the better geometry of the 4WD chassis.

That and they're a lot cheaper and more common out here. Don't worry though, I rarely even make sense to myself, what I can do though, is usually make my nonsensical ideas actually work.
