Blazer SFBD Progress

OK to get everyone up to speed:
Friday: Interior out, front clip off
Saturday: Body off, motor and trans out
Today: Frame stripped of everything worth keeping. Shop cleaned up
Tomorrow: Buy metal and see if we can get a frame started

I have all week off school so the plan is to pretty much bust ass and try to get a frame put together ASAP. The truck is at a friends shop, which is awesome, cuz it means I get to help out as much as I can. Stay tuned for updates.

yep, for the majority. Probably 2x3 for crossmembers, and some round tubing for the trans crossmember but i'm not sure yet on that.

Thanks and it looks REALLY good.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

2 or 3 hours or so we had the dash and seats out, and the front clip off. there were 2 of us for that.. but the dash has been out before. if your hasn't count on an extra hour I'd say. My front clip has also been off a few times and I have no inner fenders which makes it easier.

ok, thanks man. I'll have either 2 or 3 people. My dash hasn't been out yet that I know of so that'll take a little longer. The whole front end has all been apart minus the drivers side fender and inner fender. You think I can figure on no more than 5 hours?

Looks good...

I took my front clip off in under twently minutes including inner fenders. I did the front end swap a while ago so I've become pretty familar with where all the bolts are.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

Haha. i got a fat week off school. Today is going sh*tty so far. The metal shop i was supposed to be getting a deal from is more expensive then anyone else, and they are out of 3x3. Everyone else wants 24-48 hours notice to cut it for pick up or to deliver it. And they won't sell me any half sheets so i am going to end up spending extra $ on metal i don't need. So I am going with 2x3 3/16 for everything. Picking up 40' of that, 1 4x4 sheet of 3/16 plate and a 4x8 sheet of 16 Ga to get started. frustrating shit. hopefully we can make some progress today still though.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

You will probably use all of and maybe more of the 40'... I think I have used 30 and that ain't including crossmemebers or anything yet... I also ran 2x3x3/16 with no flex from what I can see... keep us updated

Hehe.. I just bought,, 1x1x1/8 (6'), 2x2x3/16 (14') 2x3x3/16(6'), 2 sheets of 3x3 18 GA. for 95 bux

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

the 3/16 will be for frame gussets and brackets here and there.
I know I may end up needing more metal. But this will give us a good start. I cant see using a whole lot more then 40' but i guess we will see.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

ah.. yeah metal sucks right now, lol.. 2x3 will be fine as long as you gusset and brace it up enough.. alota people here will probably disagree and say 3x3x1/4 is a must but if you actually saw that stuff you'd agree with me.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

well we got the first section of frame tacked in. (section before it narrows over the axle). We cut a couple pieces of the rear clip too. And heres the best part...i forgot my camera..again. I just get so excited to go work on it in the morning, I forget half the shit i need to bring.
tomorrow we are hopefully going to piece together more of the rear clip. i'm not gonna have much floor left behind the seats, but thats cool with me. anyways. pics tomorrow hopefully.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

OK I am headed over to work from about 12-6 or so probably today. Then I'm going out for chicken wings with the club. So hopefully I can get some pics up tonight, provided I can get on the computer (we have company staying at our house again tonight maybe). Anyways, until then this can keep you entertained:

When I bagged my truck a couple years ago, my gas tank was damaged by a misplaced Jack, and had to be replaced. I got a shop to do it, that my family deals with on a regular basis (not so much my truck anymore). They rarely have problems, but I was suprised my truck even ran, nevermind that the straps never cut right through the lines.

Re: Blazer SFBD Progress

The frame is going to widen back out at the back to utilize the stock gas tank. Just need to cut a couple more pieces but our chop saw blade crapped out so we called it a day.. I know we could have done the top rails without an open end of the tubing, but this will work out OK i think. Once it is plated up, ground and gusseted you would never know otherwise.
