Re: 3 1/2 in. BD on 24s!!

thats sucks bigtime man, sorry to hear about that, im out here in cali and we have a lot of hack shops around here, but i know of 2 shops out of prolly 15 or so that i would let work on my truck, the guy that bagged my truck, worked out of his garage, but everything is 100%, welds are perfect, im talking everything is perfectly spaced and all, and anpother shop called hoppos hydraulics, they do bags and juice, and they do some awsome work there, good quality, but like i said, id only trust 2 shops to work on mine. so, like u said, live and learn, huh, good luck with the rest of it all. and im glad you found a good shop.

get more pics up bro...

as for grit, start at 120, move up to 200, then 400, then shoot filler primer after that is super smooth. then wet san filler primer with 400 and move forward from there

i would hand sand it. any flat area's maybe, but most of it is curved and if your not too experienced you could make plenty of flat spots. i haven't smoothed my interior yet, but i plan on doing it by hand. easier for me to feel how it's going.

Re: 3 1/2 in. BD on 24s!!

I just got all my stuff painted last weekend. It took a long as time to sand everything. I started with 80 and hit it hard. Then went to 120, 220. Then I sprayed my slick sand on everything and sanded it back out with 180 and 220. Then sprayed it again with slick sand. There was still a few more pieces that needed to be sanded so I did them again. Wet sanded everything with 600 real good then sprayed a sealer on it right before the paint was layed.

Re: 3 1/2 in. BD on 24s!!

ya i started with 80 on the da and the da makes quick work. then go to 220, then 320 and prime. put 3-4 coats of primer on it then sand down with 320 and finish it off with 600. i had to prime my sh*t once since i removed all the texture and not filled them. Make sure you remove the texture and not just fill with primer.

Re: 3 1/2 in. BD on 24s!!

just remember the lower grit will leave bigger scratches that you will still have to sand out with high grits. it's not an easy process, pretty time consuming. on the plus side it's a fairly cheap project compared to everything else going on with your truck.

Re: 3 1/2 in. BD on 24s!!

i do all my parts 80 to 180 to 220 to 320 then adhesion promotor and primer. but then again i do all my snading with a DA. not by hand. you can move to 80 but like said above you are going to have to sand more with the finer grits to get the 80 scratch out. hope this helps. heres one i just finished up.

that looks good, nice work man, and as for the sanding, stay with the 120 and move up from there, take the time and do it right, dont make life harder, lol, 80 is way to rough, everyone is right, stick with the 120. good job, looks good.

yeah you have to... the problem with priming over 80 grit scratches in plastic is when you sand, it makes little hairs of plastic on the surface. when you prime over these and sand the primer you can still feel them. then you would have to re-prime.
