wire wheels, NOT dayton style

I'm thinking about picking a set of roadster style wire wheels for the Blazer, and I don't mean the multi-hundred spoke Dayton style wheels that stick halfway into the next lane either

What I'm after is the 50's Corvette style wires, Skylarks, old British roadsters, Ferraris, etc.

Yes, I know Dayton makes some wheels similar to these, and I'm not against _all_ Daytons, I just don't want the deep dish, extreme offset, or very high spoke count/ghetto style wheels.

Just wondering if anyone has put wheels like these on an S10 or Blazer before, and how it looked?

Re: wire wheels, NOT dayton style

personally i don't think they'll look rite on a dime and there is a such thing as proper fitting 100+ spoke daytons. altho i do agree that the ones that are all deep dish and stickin out the wheel well make ur vehicle look like a roller skate lol

Re: wire wheels, NOT dayton style

you want some swangas, from an 83-84 cadillac.

in the south they put these on a lot of cars.

Re: wire wheels, NOT dayton style

actually daytons (and china crap) range from a variety of different amount of spoke, they got 72 spokes, 100 spoke, 150 spoke as well as standard dish and reverse style

Re: wire wheels, NOT dayton style

First off, vettes never had wire wheels stock. Second, that's about a 67 Vette, not a "50's". Third, those are Cragar Star Wires that are on it. They were popular in the early 70's through the early 80's. My dad had an 81 Vette with them on it(bought it that way) then he put a set of used Appliance brand star wires on his 39 Chevy street rod when he first built it. I actually ran across a set of the Cragar star wires on Craigslist near me this past week.

The MG's probably used Kelsey-Hayes brand wire wheels as did the Skylarks. Those were a popular brand back then.

83 and 84 Elbows - These are the 30 spoke wire wheels that were a very rarely chosen upgrade option avail. on 1983, 1984 FWD Cadillac Eldorado's and made by Cragar wire wheels for a very short time period, hence the terms 83's, 84's, which denotes their model year made..the 84's are the most sought after and the outward spokes 'poke' out the farthest of any from the vehicle wheel well, as in the spokes actually extend outwards beyond the profile of the car for a really smooth sitting & unique gangster look, now that these wheels are very hard to find and very expensive people are calling just about every 30 spoke set of wheels '84's' and swangas, elbows, etc. In reality these others do not really poke at all and are just the standard issue 30 spoke cragar 'starwire' wheels which are easy to get and made for RWD cars as well...not the ones made for the cadillac FWD eldorados that everyone is looking for...these old originals run about 5k-10k+ for a good clean set and are ultra hard to find anywhere..if you have seen a REAL set of 84's pokin' then you know the difference is HUGE! You can find the regular non 'poking' 30's made by cragar on ebay for around $500-$1500 a set depending on the size, gold/chrome, condition, etc.

Those^ in the pic look ok, but yeah knock-offs look much better. It's those other kind of wires with the center cap that "hides" the lugs that look dumb as hell. And, yes that Buick looks like shit...wrong kind of wheels...maybe a drop, or instead of the Vogues go with a wider whitewall? Different color, too, or add some graphics or flakes, but that 5th wheel on back doesn't look right.

urbex if you don't want the deep dishes get some 17's or 18's Dayton-style standards. I can't see 83's or 84's lookin right on your truck unless you're gonna go all the way Old School with it. At least with the standards you can still be modern

Re: wire wheels, NOT dayton style

All wire wheels not held on with a knockoff are fakes in my books...Including that vette in the first post.....however those Caddy rims are kinda cool, especially for stocks.
Heres one of my dads MG's on chrome wire and wide whites.....I know the tires are firestones and I *think* the wheels are dunlop.....But Dayton makes a nice real wire wheel too.

If you get those wheels, then make sure to get a horn that go's "Ahhhoooogaaahh!!!".... or just mount this to your door to complete the look...
