Which pad/rotor combo is better
In the process of the 2wd 98+ dual piston upgrade and only need rotors and pads now.
First off, whats a good site to order from thats got good prices? I've been browsing autoanything.com and they've got free shipping and 10% off. My budget is about $300 +/- a few $. For pads, so far i'm looking at the Hawk HPS and Ceramic as well as the EBC Line. As for rotors though, is there really a huge difference between OE style and slotted? I've been contemplating (if there is a big diff) between the Power Slot and EBC rotors. Whats the best combination for my price range? Any other idea's besides these? Lower $$ is better though. Gunna be running a 5.3L and also have 20's on the truck so I need something reliable and have good bite. |

Re: Which pad/rotor combo is better
So I went ahead and picked up the power slot rotors and hawk performance ceramics. Was $290 after 10% off and free shipping so it was right in my budget. Was gunna opt for the ebc rotors til i saw a 6mo/5k mile warranty and $20 bucks more vs the power slot 3yr/36k mile warr.
Hope I made a good choice ![]() |

Re: Which pad/rotor combo is better
the best i can recommend is what i have easy access to. Performance Friction pads and Wagner rotors. The rotors carry a lifetime warranty with my company so why not.
b.t.w Lifetime warranty means so long as I own my vehicle. Last edited by nti06 : 11-01-2009 at 02:51 AM. |

Re: Which pad/rotor combo is better
Ive got the HPS pads and they dust a decent amount. I would def go with ceramics.

Re: Which pad/rotor combo is better
Ceramics blow in a performance application. Street/daily driving they are nice because of the low dust/noise they produce. But the thermal stability and coef. of friction isn't there. I went from the Baer semi-metalics to Hawk ceramics on my daily and i honestly wish I waited the extra time it takes for Baer to ship. I needed the pads that week, and it was all i had in stock. Initial bite sucks and the fade is horrible with the Hawk ceramics.
The power slot rotors are a nice piece for the price. Good choice on them. Some issues we had with them is inconsistant thickness from one rotor to another. Some had enough meat to cut, others didn't. The inconsitancy was broad enough that a customer would warp one side only due to one being much thinner than the other. This wasn't really common however. Only had maybe 1 out of 100 customers mention this problem. |

Re: Which pad/rotor combo is better
should i check the rotors for excessive run out when i get them?
I wonder how the hawk LTS pads perform. I did go with ceramics for the low brake dust, like you said. Hope they're not too hard on the rotors... I think what i'm putting on should be better than the stock single piston calipers and the regular duralast pads i had on the truck. |

Blazer brakes are nice. The brakes on my Blazer will throw you up in the windshield if you slam on em and you're not wearing your seatbelt... ask me how I know... lol...
Shouldn't have any problems with a truck. |

Re: Which pad/rotor combo is better
No need to check runout, but i would mic them in a couple spots and compare between rotors. Like I said, usualy not an issue, but once in a while....
Ceramics are pretty easy on rotors when compared to a semi-metalic. For the ultimate in slow spungy yet surprisingly clean pads try organics....yuk. Those pads with the blazer setup will still be a good improvement over the hunk of marine hardware single piston. |
