Wheels Opinions

What you guys think about these:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/USW-48-4709/

14x7's probably with 175/70/14WW, possibly 195/60/14 Vogues, because I like the old school look. There are 2 sets I'm looking at right now, the first 14x7's have a backspacing of 3.5" with zero offset. The second set are 14x7's with a backspacing of 1.875" with a -54.00mm offset. I like the second set because the wheels would be deeper(about 1.5" deeper), but I don't want them sticking way out from the fenders, which may very well be the case with this set. The first set seems like it'd work fine, but I'm afraid they won't be deep enough to my liking. And I can't find any offsets in between unless I go down to a 13x7, but nah. I know I'm reaching here, but does anyone have a similar wheel set-up on a 2WD? I have an '85 regular cab by the way.

Re: Wheels Opinions

Just curious but why are you wanting such a small tire/rim size? Are you putting the 14x7 all the way around or just in the front?

Later, Doug

Re: Wheels Opinions

they would both stick out the first set less than the second set cuz stock 2wd dimes have 4.5 inches of backspacing but i like the idea of what ur goin for,a little old school lowrider flair. skinny tires stretched on a set of supremes looks sweet but u mite be boned because of the backspacing issue. if they had more backspacing than stock u could atleast run spacers, maybe look into sum spokes?

14" are way too small, at least get 15" I got 15" supremes on an old Mustang, they are small on there, I can't see 14" looking good on a S10.

Re: Wheels Opinions

14 are way to small, 15 or 16 is what I would go with! And at least 8" wide!

Re: Wheels Opinions

Thanks for the input guys. And yes I'm goin for the old school lowrider (maybe even a little hotrod with the Supremes) look, for one, because I've always like the look, whether it be a car, small truck, small SUV. And second because it's different from what's going on these days.

14's are a small wheel but the truck right now has the stock 14's on it (not that it looks good tho!), guess it just depends on the tire size. I picked 14's because 13's are definitely too small and 15's I can't find a low enough profile whitewall. And, to me anyway, a wide whitewall gives the slight perception of a bigger wheel. Of course, I am open to bigger wheels and in the may end up going with some 18's (or bigger) and low pro's

Re: Wheels Opinions

If you go with the Hot Rod look, what about some SS Cragars wheels?

I thought about that too and actually do like the Cragars..my cousin had some on his 95 S-10 a while back. There's just something I like more about the spokes of the Supremes. But anyway it'll probably be a while before I get wheels, gotta get a new exhaust system, re-do the interior, some exterior, paint, etc.

I agree, and unless something weird happens to change my mind I'm going for the Supremes (or wires). I think big rims are cool if they "fit" the vehicle, if they add to the overall look without "being" the look, not just for the sake being big. Like Donks, for example. I kinda admire them simply because they are customized but I'd never get one myself

Re: Wheels Opinions

4.5" BS is on the 16x8 rims. I believe the 15x7's only have 4" BS. 3.5" BS won't be too bad since the stock wheels are tucked in on these trucks anyways. I never did like 14's on any S truck, even though my 86 came with them stock.

Back spacing isn't the problem with these...it's the 'front spacing'. I got two Dayton wire wheels on my porch from my brothers '73 Impala, but I don't have the adapters to mount them or I would check them to see how they fit, because that's how deep I'd like them. Anyway, I've seen some pics, and although I don't know the specs on some of the rims I've seen, I think the 14x7's with the 3.5 back spacing will be best. And I am looking hard at the black Cragar Soft 8's 17's..they look NASCAR. What width/back spacing/offset should I go with, IF I go with the Soft 8's? I want them as deep as I can without fender scrub. You gotta admit a wider track looks Detroit...too many people's trucks look like modern Jap tuners IM Honest O...not that it's a bad look for imports, but come on, we drive Chevy's
