Ok my 95 s10 daily beater with 2.2 auto has had a problem with it pulling to the right when braking for a long time. I have replaced front spindles, wheel bearings, rotors, calipers, pads, caliper pins, tie rods, and rear shoes, drums, and wheel cylinders. I just replaced the brake hoses today hoping to fix it so the brakes were bleed well, pedal is hard. Since the truck had an alignment it drives pretty straight, even during light braking. If I brake hard the truck pulls hard to the right now. Before I could easily correct for it so I put off fixing it. It is time to fix it because it is getting dangerous and the problem is so bad I can visibly see much more brake dust on the right front wheel than the left front. I'm guessing it has to have something to do with the ABS because it doesn't work and only pulls when the ABS should engage. I want to bring this truck to camp and drag so I need to either get rid of ABS or fix it before the 15th. Any suggestions?

Re: Truck pulls to the right if I brake hard
with all you have done it sounds like the abs unit may be the cause. replace it or delete it is what i would try next.
see some others have to re center the abs after loosing a brake line or running the system dry. may be something to look in to? click here for a thread on centering the abs unit. |

Re: Truck pulls to the right if I brake hard
ok I'm really confused now because my truck has rear wheel anti lock brakes because it is a strip model. So could it possibly be the master cylinder or are there still valves in the anti lock unit that split the front wheels?

Re: Truck pulls to the right if I brake hard
My mechanic just called he can't find anything wrong with my brakes in the front. Both sides are running similar temperatures. He does agree that it pulls and we are pretty sure the problem is being caused by a restriction in the lines somewhere. He didn't charge me anything which is nice considering he has had my truck all week. I'm going to pick it up and change all of the front hard lines myself to try and save money. Hopefully that will fix it. I can't imagine what else it could be, everything else is new.

Re: Truck pulls to the right if I brake hard
try switchin the front ties righ to left.. see if it makes a difference. iv done it before and noticed a huge difference, ..
another note, it could also be the back brakes causing the pull.. |

Re: Truck pulls to the right if I brake hard
Happens with both of my sets of wheels on it tires are all properly inflated. Back brakes wouldn't cause the excessive brake dust on the passenger side front compared to the driver side front.

Re: Truck pulls to the right if I brake hard
Ran all new hard brake lines in the front from the proportioning valve to the rubber lines. ****in still pulls.

Re: Truck pulls to the right if I brake hard
I'd say that your right front brakes are the problem.
There is a bolt that the brackets for the pads sit on in the calipers. If this is not clean, the pads won't pull back when you let off the pedal. The pads will continue to rub on the rotor, generating dust and heat. Did you clean all of the parts before you reassembled them? The right front brake is a common problem with S10's, Syclones, Typhoons, etc. |

Re: Truck pulls to the right if I brake hard
Try changing the brake hose on that side. It might be collapsing under lower pressures, not letting the fluid back through.
