sandblasting

couple Qs.

1, is it okay to sandblast brake drums?
2, i still cant get the drum off....

i got the drivers side off, but the pass side wont budge.
i adjusted the star screw, banged on it, pb blast/soaked the shit outta it....
there are no grooves on the drivers side so i dont think its anything of that sort of problem.. not to mention, the axle spins freely. the parking brake is not on. i really cant be pulling the axle now, so any other options on getting it off?

Re: sandblasting

If it's the passenger side it probably has a grove worn in. At least It's a problem I've seen on the first gens.

really? any theories on why pass side only?

but even if it were the grooves, would i be seeing 'play' between the wheel studs and the drum?
im not... so im assuming its just seized/rusted

Re: sandblasting

sandblasting will no do anything. you need a torch to heat teh hub area a little to make the rust turn loose.

I think he meant more for cleaning them up after he gets them off so he can paint them.

Ryo, I blasted mine and painted them up and all was good.

Re: sandblasting

Yea the smoke wrench should work. Try to just get the drum itself hot then either hit it with a hammer or pry it open. Their isn't really an easy way to get rusted drum brakes off except brute force.
