You can do this on ANY truck. Just make sure the backing plate bolt pattern matches your truck's bolt pattern. Look at the same year f-body for answers. S-10s and f-bodys have always had the same rear ends (shorter for s10s). Measure your bolt pattern and see what you can find. The come 2 ways, square or rectangle patterns. Find out what you have and go hunting.

yep, everything reaches, just a very small bend. Instead of up (or down) you bend it towards the brake hose on the caliper.
Not sure on the C5 stuff. The rotors and calipers are MUCH larger if I remember right.....actually,...NO,because the vette does not have a live axle, it will not mount to the f-body backing plate. You could probably ebay them or sell them to get f-body parts though. email me and I'll send pictures michael.gronholz@verizon.net The only real mod is the p-brake brackets. |

Hey everybody. What took me so long to find this thread? My brakes are pretty bad, shop told me it would cost like $700, and that was my uncle talking. I've mentioned the disc brake conversion to a few people and they thought I was nuts but I figured it wasnt that big of a deal. I really dont know what Im doing, but if someone would email me some detailed instructions that would be great. I really want to do this

I sent you pictures. I'll send instructions later tonight. It is very simple and straight forward. I had NEVER taken a rear end apart until this and it took me about 3 hours start to fininsh. It is very noticable !!! The truck squats when it stops instead of diving forward.

I been giving this thought lately and was curious. Apparently i could just get a blazer rear end for the same year and itd work, right. Would i just be able to un bolt the entire axle and put the new one in? Could this also be done with an f-body rearend? If i can just swap the entie units i wouldnt have to buy teh zexel unit either, just the whole axle, correct? That is what id like to do.
Thnx |

RawRedX - Hot avatar !!! But...NO !!! The f-body rear would require the welding of leaf brackets. Then you get in to the whole angle thing. Just buy the entire rear and swap out the parts. As for the blazer rear, sure that you can completely swap. BUT, which is less expensive and which sounds better ?

Ohh, another thing..
Anybody who has done this swap.. Did you have to use the proportioning valve, or does it work without it? Thanks.. Ohh and onyx, are those red calipers stock off a F-body or what is it? |

Onyx02,
Just wondering where in ALABAMA the Camaro salvage place is. I live in Jasper, and thought I might ride out there to get my stuff to do the conversion. Also thought about converting the mastercylinder to a 'vette unit. Was told I would have to do it to get 20's to clear anyway, and I would have a $ wheel ABS setup and prop valve with the swap. If you can, send me some pics and instructs please. I think I know what to do, but I just wanna be sure. NvRLwEnF97@aol.com |

Let's see if I can get everyone an answer !!!
![]() Ok... MoNkEyZQ8 - Used the S-10 prop. valve with no problems. The red calipers are because I wanted some "flair" and painted them. They came off a '01 LS1 Camaro. The other side is yellow. Can't decide which I like better. And YGM. WerkNProg - Billy Graham's Camaro Salvage • (205) 668-1169 • (205) 668-1164 FAX • 970 Highway 202, Calera, AL 35040 and, YGM also. Again, to those wondering "I'm not sure if I can do this" all it takes is some patience and follow what I've said to do !!! You really only have 1 thing to worry about, and that is the pin bolt in the read end. As long as you do as I have said and take it slow and easy and don't strip the bolt, you WILL succeed !!! And, if you are in the DC area, email me and I'll help you do it !!! Or email me and we can hook up and see what I've done. |

The Antil-lock sensor for the rear tires is a SINGLE sensor on the tranny's drive shaft or the transfer case if 4X4, at least for a '95 S15 Jimmy (factory book and I have the tranfer case off for tranny rebuild @ 188,000 miles)
If you lock up one rear tire, due to the differential, the other tire turns twice as fast (not) or the drive shaft slow down big time (the other rear tire usually locks) so the ABS sees the rear tire speed isn't as fast as the front and releases brake pressure. S10 folks will see lockup a lot easier than Blazer/Jimmy drivers due to light rear end. I would use a proportioning valve as constant use of the ABS isn't a good thing. If you tow a trailer, just that instant of rear wheel lockup is enuf to get you going sideways that won't stop= trialer in front of you while you do a 180+ jack knife and rig flips just like an 18-wheeler. On the other hand rear disc with a lever style proportioning valve would rule for trailering as you can bump it up when you have more lbs on the rear end for better stopping power to hold that tailer or your load in the bed back. Sensors on the brake housing must be traction control if on S10 style or possibly ABS off the Camaros. |

So how do we set-up the e-brake? I want to do this but I havent seen any info or pics on it.
I have a 5-speed and I need the brake to work for when I park. Second couldn't we use the p-valve from a ZR2? Or even a Blazer? |

I hate the way my truck stops, I dive more than alot of SUVs do in the front, also mines an extended cab, 4.3, 250 pound speakers/box, and usually have a quad in the back in the summer, so I gotta do this as soon as the drums go out, i hate drums, always have, alwyas will, but not huge on fullsizes(great work trucks, no fun to drive to me)

I've been working on the parking brake thing. I had the end of the passenger side cable changed to match the Camaro cables. I had an entirely new drivers side cable made up. I kind of fabbed a bracket for the passenger side out one of the brackets from the Camaro setup. I plan to try to do the same for the drivers side. Hopefully I'll be able to get them hooked up this weekend.
The brakes work great. The only problem I have had is a weird clunking and creaking from the passenger side. My ABS has always been touchy. My friends say its because of how I drive, but I don't think so. I haven't noticed any difference in the ABS since I installed the brakes. I would recomend doing this. |

I got my brake working
Had new cables made. Well, should have had both cables remade. Only replaced the drivers side one, and had the passenger side one moddified. I sent them off to a place called Control Cables. They were able to make me one new cable and modify the other one for $70. i had the ends of the cables changed to fit the parking brake lever on the backing plate of the camaro brakes. The drivers side cable needed to be longer. I had it remade 7" longer than the stock one, but it wasn't long enough. Should have gone for 10 or 12 inches longer. The passenger side one could use a little bit of extra length also, maybe 4 or 5 inches. Anyway, two new cables probably wouldn't be too much more than the $70 I spent. Reused all of the stock other stuff, equilizer thing, clips and stuff, and return spring. Mine is a little ghetto rigged right now because I had the cable made too short. had to get a short length of cable to make up the difference between the caliper cable and the pedal cable. So, if you got any questions email me or pm me or something. I hope that helps yall. Also, let me know if you've got any better solutions. |

Sorry guys been moving, and the war, and stuff.... Everyone that wants pictures and how-to's on the the p-brakes, email at mikegronholz@bigfoot.com and I'll get you taken care of. It is ALL straight forward with parts from America's favorite store ... Home Depot ... for about $20-$30 (then return the $15 tool). BTW, anyone interested in buying my truck ? ![]() |

Thought I would post a link to a LS1 rear disc swap in older gen rear drum camaros. The parts are the same ones that are required (mostly) for an s10. The link includes pictures and part numbers if you wanted to pick it up straight from the dealer. I am looking into the differences in price between the wreckers and buying new. Might not be worth getting used stuff. |
