Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

This brake write up was great, thanks to the OP.

Just curious if you happen to have the GM part number on the calipers?

Thanks.

he's super helpful and knows his stuff! now i need to find blazer 2102 spindles on a deal.
i gave up on Ed. no call backs.

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

You guys try emailing Ed? I emailed him about seeing if it was possible that he was working on a bracket that could bolt Blazer calipers to S10 spindles but he said nah. Got a response in a couple days

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

Yeah I have heard great things about Kore3. I think Ed is just really busy. On the Gbody forums he's the most popular brake swap producer couldn't even imagine what other forums he's known on. If he's all by himself doing these it's probably pretty busy for him.

#9) Custom SS brake hoses from Kore#, reference order #KORE3 SO20742 (the order will include banjo bolts, crush washers, retainer clips and custom SS hoses the whole package should cost you $72.57, that's a killer deal, go out and price actual C5 Corvette braided hoses, they're usually over $100 just for the hoses alone

they WILL loosen up without thread lock

I think thats it, this swap will a lot easier for you than me, I would've killed for complete list of parts and someone who's done the swap before, I had a lot of questions, and very few answers.

if you have any other questions post em up

would you have the size OR part number to the bolts that attach the blazer hub to the spindel? thanks!

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

Is there a bracket to make these work with 12'' rotors? Aren't the c5 calipers and the f-body calipers the same essentially? As far as bolting up?

I have 2000 F-body calipers, rotors & pads. I also have '98+ 4wd spindles to install them on. I did a mock up and the caliper will fit fine with a simple adapter plate.

From the back side.

A simple flat bar with hole in the right places will span the gap between the Blazer caliper mounting holes and the F-body caliper mounting holes. I have the bar but it's not going to happen until this winter, still need the truck to drive for a couple of months.

The pads are the exact same size as C6. The pads are at least 50% bigger, and with a lighter 2 piston caliper.

You will need to deal with the placement of the brake hose. The F-body calipers put the hose connection at the bottom of the caliper. At full droop, suspension hanging, the fitting will hit the lower control arm at full lock. I've got a couple of ideas to work around this.

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

awesome! thats exactly what I was looking for. I assume f-body rotors will fit under the ZQ8s, since the f-bodys have 16'' wheels?

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

Yes they will clear 16" wheel. I picked these brakes up for $75 at the local J/Y, nearly new parts!

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

What size is F-body rotor kit that you have there? What size is Zo6 rotors? I wanted the red vette calipers because they would look nice behind my black rims. I have 20in rims with 33's and stock size cross/slotted ones are terrible. Sometimes I need to stop short and I can't I want the Zo6 if they work...

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

The F-body rotors I have are 12", about an inch bigger than S10. The Z06 is 13" I believe. The pads are exactly the same as C6, don't know about Z06. I did try a 13" rotor with the spindle & caliper combo and it fits well, but I already have like new rotors so I will go with these for now. Besides, the rotors are heavier than these and I think these will do very well.

Does anyone know where to get abutment bracket set from? Ive looked online and a used set is around $200 for all 4. Is there somewhere cheaper to get it from?

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

Sorry to bump an old thread.

I have a 2000 4wd, 4 disc brake truck. What is required to fit C5 brakes? Do I need spindles? Does anyone make a caliper bracket for this? Sorry I'm such a newb.

I read through most of this thread and can't find the answer.

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

Wanted to bump this thread just went through it all and it has a abundant source of great info for upgrading your brakes. I plan on doing this as well soon with the body drop coming very soon. I just hope the prices have come down some since this was first written. 600 bucks is alittle steep for me and im sure most of you would want to do this cheaper as well.

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

depends on were you find the brakes at. the brackets are a little over 100 bucks from kore3 to bolt the calipers up, plus the cost of calipers and rotors. i found a full set of c5 brakes front and rear, calipers, brackets, etc. for 250 on craigslist. just the calipers without any brackets or rattle clips are in the 250 300 range for the fronts. im not going to use my stock rotors i ordered some drilled and slotted so the cost is a little more and i got ss lines from kore3.

Re: C5 Z06 Vette Brakes

Has anyone done the C5 Vette brakes with blazer drop spindles and SD upper and lower arms. I had the brakes on my truck with the SD arms but stock spindles. I am doing a bodydrop now and switched to drop spindles. I had to cut the hell out of my spindles for my brakes to mount up to them because the tabs were a lot beefier. Once I got the brakes on though, when I turn my wheel, the caliper hits the upper arm due to it now being 2" higher. I did a little modding to get it to turn farther but I am still limited on my turning range now. Anyone else run into this problem?
