Brake Wear Problem
Vehicle:2000 envoy, 4wd, 4 wheel discs with ABS
Symptom:I'm burning the rear pad/rotor in a matter of 3 or 4 months, i'm on my 3rd set this year... drivers side inside pad wears excessively... had them changed in January, in March and in June any ideas? "stealer"ship says it could be parking brake sticking?? i pulled out the parking brake pad out on that side, and will see if that helps... they also said the caliper checks out fine... any ideas would be greatly appreciated Cheers Goran |

Re: Brake Wear Problem
Inside pad wearing like that means either stuck caliper or the pin is stuck and not allowing the cliper to slide back.
I'm not sure the setup on yours, but on mine there is a pin that the caliper bolts to. The pin should slide very easy in and out and also spin in circles should you try. (By hand and easily) The slide pin has a hex on it for holding with a wrench while you remove the caliper bolt. (pin fits into caliper bracket) I have had to lube the hell out of my pins because the inside hole on the caliper bracket was somewhat rusted and depending on the pin location it could stick. Not sure why you would have taken the parking brake apart since the parking brake is operate on the inside of the drum section of the rotor and the caliper/bracket is what is causing your odd brake pad wear. if the pins all slide easily then the problem is upstream like hoses, or valves up front from the MC. |
