Big Brake Kit (front) where to buy?

I will ask this now, since after I spent the monies on the summitracing disc conversion and after was told of killer deals I figured I would ask before planning on a bigger brake set up for the front.

So where to buy, what to look for and.. hell I dunno whatever is involved with the swap?

thanks in advance. I figure if I put this out here like this that maybe I can find a good deal on a COMPLETE kit.

You can try calling Baer about their kits for the S10. When I bought mine a few months ago they had some great deals if you bought directly from them.

Alright, I was looking at doing the LT1 brakes to my truck. I'm kind of confused but are they showing hubs that work on the non-blazer drop spindles?

For those of you who have done this, what did it end up costing? $600.00? $700.00?

I got my calipers, rotors over at www.corvetteforum.com You can get some good prices from some of those guys. I am going to get my front mounting bracket from acehagg, if he has the time or kore3, might even try flyenby if they will still offer them. Buy a set of low mileage used ones is the best bet on calipers and rotors.

Re: Big Brake Kit (front) where to buy?

Rhot and Moon.. thanks guys! The last time I took my front brakes off.. the guide pins were bent. Towing does ALOT of damage to our trucks. I am not going to mess with them again till I get the LT1 conversion done. Thing that will hold me up will be the rims. Want those torque thrust types from centerline.

I paid just under $900 shipped. Mine have 13" D/S/Z rotors and came fully assembled on brand new drop spindles for that price. I think they would have been around $200 less without the spindles.

Anyone bought that guy "crankshaft" hubs? Seems like they would fit too tight, and the fact that once ANY water got in there that hub would fuse to the rotor..

I like those $85.00/per hubs.. those bad boys look nice.. and zinc coated.. excellent!

Can you post up a link? What size rims will you need? At least 16"? I am planning on 17" rims.. this is just a work truck, no need to get crazy with it.

They seem to like them a lot. It would be no different than a Blazer hub/rotor. It's basically the same type of setup that Flynbye has. I'm looking to do it this summer. I have a set of LS1 calipers that need powder coating. I just scored a 2wd Blazer disc rearend for $150, complete with swaybar that's going in also.

Procrastination has carried me this far in life, it will carry me to my grave, and hopefully put that off as well.

WOW what a steal man!

I am not knocking crankshafts hubs.. sounds like he is getting them milled down correctly. He is right off I70 outside of St Louis. I could pick up a setup from him the next time I am going out to see matt Extremes10 or whatever his damn name is on here.. if I decide to get his setup. I am more than likely going with flybyes.

I have the SSBC Force 10 2 piston calipers on my truck. While they are an improvement over stock, I would not buy them again. A big brake upgrade is what is needed for these trucks.

Tell me about it. One high speed run and the brakes are warped. Mine will get to a hundred in a flash, but needs four miles to slow back down it seems.

I got some calipers off of a Camaro I think will eventually end up on the front, after I collect more parts.

If I can get my shop put backtogether any time soon.. I will have my blast cabinet set up and you can come by and blast em if you would like. Get em to square one that way. I saw a set on fleabay for like 40.00 shipped.. I figure if nothing else I could use them as cores for a new set.

Re: Big Brake Kit (front) where to buy?

I got the SSBC kit. The DPiston upgrade for stock spindles. Its nice parts tho it took a while to get em. I got them thru Summit when thay had a killer deal a year ago. The 'performance' pads they sent sucked IMO. But I got Hawk HPS replacements for a closeout deal at PepBoys last year. I also bought Goodridge braided lines on sale from Stillen. Rotors I got some closeout 'old part number' PowerSlot.
It uses stock parts, so getting replacement pads ad such is easy and readily available....without searching for the compatable parts. Plus fits behind my stock ZQ8's
They fit well and perform well enuff for me. But its stock sizing and only upgrade in terms of less weight and dual pistons.

U may be justified to get the Camaro/Vette swap, Flyinbye, Kore, Baer or Brembo's. Im sure they brake a heck of a lot better! But price, need for bigger rims and such kept me from getting something else.
Theres other companies to look into PBR, PowerStop, StopTech, and a few others I cant recall at the moment

Re: Big Brake Kit (front) where to buy?

Been looking at this kit, as I would like to do the same upgrade. Im not sure what calipers are ued in the kit but it looks like a blazer type spindle and some type of stock gm 2 piston caliper, byt for the price its a big brake kit all there ready to bolt on no hunting around for parts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/McGaughys-Fr...item20b7a25b08

They're not Blazer spindles...they have dust caps.

Re: Big Brake Kit (front) where to buy?

Avoid flynbye, no communication. Made me feel like they ran off with my money, filed a paypal dispute after a month, which was promptly refunded. But he doesn't respond to emails, and when you call them his wife answers and says he'll call you back... which he won't.

This link has some bracket designs, they're not for the s10 but still pretty neat.

Re: Big Brake Kit (front) where to buy?

/\ thanks! I am not afraid to spend the money on good pieces. I just need to stop right. Some of the kits I am seeing are around $1000. meh.. if it means stopping a fully loaded trailer.. I am cool with that

WELL worth the money.
