But it measures in CM not IN. Personally I am not smart enough to convert it to inches or is it I am just too lazy?

LOL, there are 25.4mm in an inch, so that makes 2.54cm in an inch. I think my math is right.

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

Those with pics are nice.

I like the one in my sig. No pics of the tires, but more info. like backspacing and it's effects on things, and effective gear ratios with different tires and such.

Check it out (you have to scroll down past the wheels)

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

I personaly used the one posted by powerhungrv8.
I prefer it beacuse you first put in your stock size and find a fitment close to stock. It also shows you how wide the tire is too.

However the animated one is fun to play with.

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

you know, they are cool to use...but the tire sizes are not correct. it says for 225/70/15 it is 27.1in. mine are only 26'' tall. for 245/40/18 it says 25.something. my buddy has that size and his tires are only 24'' tall. am i doing something wrong?

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

^^^^ A lot of it depends on brand of tire, air pressure, yadda yadda yadda. Plus you gotta remember on the truck and off the truck it will be different slightly because of the weight you are putting on them

All that means is that the overall diameter is 3% bigger or smaller than your stock tires. So there will be a 3% difference in your speedo. If your speedo shows 100mph, you would actually be going 103mph.

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

Curious if some one has an answer. I did the calculator for a 20" rear wheel on 35 series. The ones I have now are 16" with 40 series tires. Two things, it mention over 3% increase will increase possible brake failure. Any one have a problem with this? Also, it calculated speed say that with my stock ones @ 60 mph it would be 50 mph with the 20" wheels. Does that mean that when the speedo is reading 60mph I'll actually be going 50mph? Some one help explain this. Thanks

285/50/20 would work for you. the 265/75 16 is 31.64 inches and the 285/50/20 is 31.22

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

So if your diameter diffrence is over 3% why is their a risk of brake failure. Also is there any way to correct for the speedo error or do you just live with it. I still use my stock wheel/tire for winter but use the newer ZQ8 235/55/16 in the summer. the diffrence is like 3.44%

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

you can get a jet chip and correct the tire size when you reprogram, but idunno if its worth it if you are just using it for that.

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

Anything beyond a 3% change in ride height can cause ABS brake system faiilure, which is based off your stock ride height. Also it causes issues with vehicle computers, trip comp's, speedometer, gearing is off, and can lead to transmission failure as well. So they key is to keep it within that 3%.

Can anyone tell me what metric size tire I'd need for:

15''x8'' rim for 27'' tire height?

Widest tire possible. Yes it's going on an 02' sonoma.

I think the biggest you would want to go is a 255/60R15. Allthough i'm not too sure if even that might rub when turning.

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

Eh... those other calculators are fun to play with but I like the 1010 calc the best still. I have been using that one for a long time. It is nice to just be able to look up the car's make and model and it will show you what size it came with from the factory, then you can compare 4 other sizes at the same time.

Re: Awsome tire size calc.

So i think for my tire sizes, i decided on a 245/55/16 for the rear and 225/50/16 for the front. 9.5 wide in back and 8.5 wide in front. Thoughts?
