trouble bleeding brakes

i just did a rear disc swap on my 02 and i cant get a firm pedal i have to press it half way to the floor before the breaks start to grab and it seems the rears wont engage, fluid comes out when u bleed them but the rotors are still rusty after driving its likey the arent working the calipers arent stuck or frozen they have fluid flowing to them i have bled the whole truck 3 times but it still does the same thing i bled the abs module using a tech 2 scanner with no luck,a friend suggested that maybe the master blew a seal if i pushed the pedal too far at first or something but i dunno cause everything worked fine before no air seems to come out at all any ideas what to do

Re: trouble bleeding brakes

Take off your proportioning valve and gut it.

^^^Yeah. And don't expect to get a rock-solid pedal without replacing damned-near EVERY component in the brake system with aftermarket performance parts. It's a GM.

Re: trouble bleeding brakes

the parts he put on were stock GM parts btw. i would try a new master, then bench bleed the master and bleed the system again. start from the furthest bleeder then move your way in

i tried another master and removed the proportioning valve and bled it twice and still have a soft pedaland the rear brakes still dont work and the pedal is still soft fluid comes out when i bleed them but i can tell they dont move cause the rotors are still a lil rusty i cant i bled over a quart of fluid through the system so there isnt any air in there and the new master acted the same as the old one the only other things left to change are the rear lines and the abs unit so im runnin out of things to do tonight i might try to gravity bleed the system by leavin the bleeders open overnight

Re: trouble bleeding brakes

Take it to a brake shop and have them bleed them with a machine.

Re: trouble bleeding brakes

i figured it out the calipers were marked wrong and since the bleeders were on the bottom i couldnt get all the air out i switched them from side to side and it all bled right out
