Tach wont work

Last night I installed my new tach cluster in my 95 2.2L pick up. Everything works perfectly but the tach wont move. I checked the pins in the bulkhead connector against both the old & new clusters & I see pins in all the places that the new cluster has marks on the printed circuit. It got late and I just stuck it together enough to drive today. Looks like there is a white wire that sends signal from igntion coil to the tach, common ground circuit between them all. Before I get real deeply involved, anyone gone thru this?

Re: Tach wont work

Ok, found the problem is in the cluster. Have signal at pin 8 and ground is good. Got continuity on printed circuit from pin 8 to the tach connection. So I guess I have to take it apart to see whats going on.

Re: Tach wont work

im having the exact same problem same truck. i havent had a chance to check yet, but did you get a pulse on the tach wire at the cluster. My meter stays at work most of the time so it will be next week before i can tinker with it again. when i figure it out i will most definetly post since there is no thread on this particular issue with this model truck. did your cluster come from a 4.3?

Re: Tach wont work

Mine is a 2.2L auto cluster. Rare as hens teeth. I took mine out & apart. I have I think a bad inner IC board chip from what we can tell. It seems there are alot of people that do things here but when a problem comes up, there is not a lot of deep answers. I'm going to locate another tach & swap IC boards to see if that fixes it or is it the meter.
