Rattle at higher rpm

I have a rattle at higher rpm if you get on it more then normail it does it in any gear but if you stay in it increasing the rpm from that point it stops its just around the rpm range it quits or if u let out of it... it sounds like a heat sheild or somthing but ever thing i can think of is tight.... what could make my truck sound like its flying apart??

Try putting higher octane gas in it for a while.

Re: Rattle at higher rpm

I had a bad low speed rattle once on my Blazer. Turned out to be a bad cat. Replaced the cat and the noise was gone. Try hitting your cat with a hammer or shaking it, and see if it rattles.

Re: Rattle at higher rpm

yeah it kinda sounds like a head sheild but it sounds like my powerstearing pump cus it wines and gets its loudest right when it makes that sound....but my converter is starting to smell a bit....
its kinda like a hissing rattle

are the magnaflow converters for our trucks just bolt on? cus I can get one cheaper than the local muffler shop charges to put on a universal cat. plus there not as restricked as most ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MAGNA...spagenameZWDVW )

Re: Rattle at higher rpm

My "rattle" kicks in at 3500 RPMS and goes away at 4K. I can feel it in the gas pedal. I agree it's super embarrassing when I get on it to pass someone or merge on the highway. It's not the cat, just replaced with Magnaflow last summer and new Bosch plugs at the same time. I think it's the exaust manifold heat shield. I'm looking into it this weekend when I install my ASP pulleys and new radiator (hopefully a Taurus fan too).

Re: Rattle at higher rpm

mine does it too... I got no cat on mine, but I think it might just be the exhaust rattling.

Re: Rattle at higher rpm

It might be a long shot but check your flex pipe where it connects to the manifold, if the joint broke loose it could be your rattle.

Re: Rattle at higher rpm

I had a rattle just like that.. came at higher revs... but it turned out to be not a loose heatshield or exaust flex pipe... it was the timing chain tensioner on my 2.2. Replaced the whole setup and run much better and loads quieter.

Just a thought..
