Phantom grill. But better.

I saw a grill kit on the internet that is for the 98 style s10. It leaves the headlights and signals cut out but phantoms everything else. Would it be possible to just recess the lights and then phantom the whole front end?

Re: Phantom grill. But better.

Nope. Unless you cut out the core support and recessed the brackets into the engine bay, then maybe

if done right but that grill you are tallking about is hideous. theres a very good reason 98+ doesnt have a full face phantom

Re: Phantom grill. But better.

Probably. But I think the look of it with the headlights left alone is retarded. Billet or full phantom is really all i like. Besides. I still have the old style fron end sonoma. I like it much better than the 98+.

Wait a minute... You have the '94 front end, but you're looking at a '98 Phantom? You do realize they make the good looking full-face Phantoms for the '94 - '97 style front ends, right?

Here's an example:

Just ignore my post if this has all gone straight over my head.

Re: Phantom grill. But better.

Oh i have full intentions on getting the 94 phantom. I was just wondering about the 98+ because i was considering buying another truck and wanted to have a phantom theme with all my vehicles. Me and 3 of my buddies all ride phantoms. Well, not me yet. But its a work in progress.

Re: Phantom grill. But better.

Ahhh, alright, I gotcha!

As for the '98 - nah, they don't make a true full-face Phantom. Your best bet is to probably just to swap in a '94 core support, and run a Phantom that way. I remember there being a thread on the swap somewhere around here...

Re: Phantom grill. But better.

One thing im not sure of, if i got the 94 phantom kit do they make one that's a direct replacement?

Because if i have to modify my own grill im screwed because its...very broken. Haha. If i do have to modify my own how do i do that? My friends have never made theirs.
1 got the truck with it. 1 found a full grill all ready to bolt on, and 1 found a good parts truck with the grill.

Re: Phantom grill. But better.

Thanks! No problem Not sure what material I'm going to use yet? It won't be chromed so I might cut the slats out on the cnc table or maybe use some tubing and form it to the contour of the hood/bumper? The rendering I posted is the truck I'm building btw... hoping to be first to make a truck phantom, not just the old crappy stick on one. Haven't ever seen one with recessed lights/phantom on a 2nd gen

Re: Phantom grill. But better.

You better go with the black rims. Or..bad things will happen. Haha. But yeah your truck is looking great man. Let me know in a pm if you find anything out about getting it done. Kinda want to keep it a secret haha.

It would also be kinda cool to recess your tails you have in your roll pan and phantom those too. I actually think i will phantom my front end and my tails in my tailgate.

Possibly the rear window too if i can make a photochop look good enough. But i like phantoms black. No chrome here. I like the old ratrod Murdered look.

My truck is going to be as black as they come. PPG black with everythign tinted or phantom. Except im thinking about chroming the frame or going kriptonite green with it. Not sure yet.

Also deciding on white walls or white letter tires.

Re: Phantom grill. But better.

I'm doing chrome and black rims. I love the all black look, but chrome on black looks nice too! Truck will be painted the same color as the wheels. Looking at it from the drivers side it will be all black but looking from the passenger side it'll be black with the flames and chrome rims. Going to get the taillights tinted most likely. Kinda been thinkin of doing the new full size GMC Yukon headlights recessed behind the grille. Not 100% on that one yet? I'd actually like to see the truck driving before I start adding a bunch more stuff to the to do list, lol.

Re: Phantom grill. But better.

That sounds pretty damn cool. Also i just noticed. In your picture the black side has the door shaved completely shut. So it looks like the door being open suicide is actually opening the whole damn cab.

I like the idea of a different look on the driver side. Kinda unique. I havent seen that more than once. It will keep people guessing that dont know you.

"I just saw one kickass truck go up the road and one alot like it with different rims and flames come back down the road! Who are these people!?!?

haha! that would be pretty funny to hear!! Thanks for the compliments! And yep, the driver's side will be one big suicide door and if my fab skills are up to par when the time comes, I'd like to do the same to the passenger side!

It's going to need some serious hinges to stop a door that big from sagging! If you end up following through with that rendering, it's going to be one hell of a truck - good luck with it, man!

Thanks I'm wanting to do a full metal interior, aside from seats, so that'll deffinetly help with the reinforcing aspect! Have some ideas for it so we shall see once it gets to that point.
