Oil Pressure High
My oil pressure has been sky rocketing past 80 when I first start the truck up until the engine temp reaches 210. As soon as the engine is warm to 210 it stays between 30 but if I get down on it say around 4000 RPM the needle goes to about 60-70. The engine sounds fine. And my last oil change was about 2000 miles ago with mobile oil. The truck is a 2002 S-10 with about 56,000 miles. Do you think it is a sensor? Or?????

Re: Oil Pressure High
yea i'm using 5-30. so with the oil pressure going to around 120 i shouldn't worry about it? Just let it warm up I guess before I take off

Re: Oil Pressure High
If the pressure is really going to 120 psi, you could blow the filter housing and loose all of you oil, and make one hell of a mess too. First thing that I would do is replace the oil pressure sending unit. If it does the same thing with a new sending unit, you may have to replace the oil pump - not an easy job.

Re: Oil Pressure High
BAD. Shouldnt get much past 60. 80 (correct me if incorrect) is the end of the gauge reading? The only two things that can cause runaway pressure are stuck bypass piston in the pump (has one?) or a restriction in the pump output. 5 - 30 is thin, im using 10-40 at 210000 miles and pressure goes to 60 -ish cold.

Re: Oil Pressure High
Yeah, my gauge only goes to 80 so I wonder where he's getting 120 from?
Maybe we've been punked? |
