Yes,they fit I have a set I'm going to run on my 03. I put them on once to see how they fit, if I remember right they are close on the tie rod ends.

from 1988 to 1990 the irocz was known as an iroc z28 because the z28 model was not an available package. dont correct someone who isnt wrong.

but they are commonly know as iroc wheels, and they are staggared. the rear wheels have a different backspacing than the front, so keep that in mind if they rub you may be able to flip them around.

the wheels i have on my truck are commonly known as z28 wheels, but they were offered on rs camaros, and base models as well as the z28. they are all the same offset and are different than the irocs.

IROC Z wheels were 16inch,and Z28 wheels and RS wheels of that year were 15 inch, however later years the RS wheels were 16 inch and looked like the first ZQ8 style S10 wheels.

right. 91 and 92 camaro's had optional 16x8 rims, that are identical to early zq8's except the center cap is different. but those arent iroc wheels, camaro iroc's last year was 1990

It also means they are only 15's and not 16's that true early (85-87) are. Later IROCs could be had in both 15 and 16" size.

Re: IROCZ Iroc-z Z28 16x8 wheels rims on s10?

yes there is clear coat on the wheel from the factory, if it was bare aluminum they would be all corroded by now 20 years later.

i didnt have any problems painting them, i do body work for a living it was quite easy.

all you have to do is put a nice 400-600 grit scratch in the wheel, then shoot your paint.

i used ppg single stage dc9300 paint because it is known for its durability, and it has never chipped on me.

no rattle can around these parts my friend

that's the clear coat giving way. i'd re do the whole wheel. sand all the clear off in those affected areas, and sand the colored areas with 400-600. then mask, and paint the colored areas, then unmask and clear the whole rim.

Re: IROCZ Iroc-z Z28 16x8 wheels rims on s10?

Sometimes you can save the painted part....Sand off the clear on the unpainted areas, then wetsand the painted areas with like 1500 grit being carful not to sand through, but to get all the dirt and crap off so that it's an even dull finish. Then take some rubbing compound and rub out all your sanding lines in the painted area. Then you can polish the unpainted parts using metal polish then wipe the whole thing down really well with thinner to get all the oil/wax off. Then you can clear the entire thing.
It's probably more work to do it this way, but I've done it to my Camaro's Z28's, and to my old camaro berlinetta's alluminum rims.
You can also polish any part of these rims to a chrome like shine(like the older style ZQ8's in my avatar)....Theres a thread by me, and a thread by tt85_gm on doing this.

Unfortunately this is the only pic I have of either of the Camaro rims....These are 82 Berlinetta rims...They were horrible(at least as bad as the gold Z28's posted above).

Re: IROCZ Iroc-z Z28 16x8 wheels rims on s10?

The 85-87 Irocs were 16x8 with a 16mm positive offset on the rears.
There was a early 85 15x7 version of that same exact wheel. No offset needed.
The 88-90 (2nd version) was all 16x8s and had the offset rears.
The 91-92 Z28/RS upgrade wheel was 16x8 and had offset.
The original 5 spoke Z28 which later was the base wheel on Camaro SportCoupe and RS models was 15x8 and no particular offset differences.

The 16x8s do have an interferance problem (rears I think) if used on the front with the tierod end.
The 15x7s are ok.

There is a wheel that GM used on the early ZQ8's that looks like the 91-92 Z28 wheel and has a S-series specific offset.
There is also a wheel GM used on some late 2nd Gen S-series that looks like the early Z28/later RS base 15x7 rim. Had also S-series specific offset.
Ironically the centercaps from the last wheel I just referred to is the same and interchangable design to the ones used on the LATEST ZQ8 wheel. Its gray with a gold bowtie

Its gray with a gold bowtie
my 5 spoke z28s were 15x7, and due to thicker material and 1/4" less BS than the stock 15x7 on 2wd s10s, with a 5in drop up front had interference with lca on sharp turns

Re: IROCZ Iroc-z Z28 16x8 wheels rims on s10?

IROC and Z28 wheels are different. The early year IROCs were a package on top of the Z28 which is why they are IROC Z28's. There was also just a plain Z28. In 88 I believe they dropped the Z28 and they became IROCs only. The Z28 was brought back in 91 when the dropped the IROC name since the cars were no longer being used for the IROC races and they didn't want to pay the license/royalty fees anymore.

Re: IROCZ Iroc-z Z28 16x8 wheels rims on s10?

This came up in another thread recently....We determinded that one year of IROC came with 15x7 "Z28"(like ryo has, or the Camaro in my sig), that year was 1988.
I have a GM promotional poster from that year of an IROC, Vette, and Cavy, and the IROC has those 15x7 five spoke Z28 style rims.

I got confused on my initial quote! I thought what the poster meant was
a Z28(car) and a Z28 (car) were not the same thing. lol!

I was thinking hmmm, I'm staring at my parents car and it says
:Iroc-z Z28

Re: IROCZ Iroc-z Z28 16x8 wheels rims on s10?

sorry to revive an old thread, I hate to be that guy

little confused, will the 88-90 Iroz 16x8's fit a 99 S10 or not? From what I've gathered the offset of the rears is different and will interfere on the front, but are they OK on the rear?

Thanks!

88-90 are the same fitment, they just look different with the two lines on each spoke as opposed to the large single line in the spoke of the 85-87 style.

Ok, yeah just figured that out. So my only other question, would either set work on a '99 2WD? Sorry, feel like such a noob

Re: IROCZ Iroc-z Z28 16x8 wheels rims on s10?

Yes, should work fine. I had a set of 16" GTA wheels on several S trucks but all 4 were fronts. I bought them used at a swap meet. I have a set of 85-87 IROC's that are going on my 4x4 Jimmy in the spring.
