How to grease u-joint?

I have a 2 month old u-joint that is already clicking. The shop swore that they greased it but I really doubt that now. So how am I supposed to grease it because none of my 3 grease guns will fit between the yokes.

Do I have to jack up the truck or have it at a certain position to be able to grease it? I am about to make a 100 mile drive later today and really dont want to drive like it is.

Re: How to grease u-joint?

I was hoping not to have to do that. But if that's what I have to do then ill do that.

Re: How to grease u-joint?

I try to install a U-joint so that the grease nipple has as much clearance as possible, and sometimes that isn't enough to allow most grease gun fittings in.

Sometimes if you let the rear axle drop it will give you some angle on the joint and that may be enough, and sometimes you would have to drop the rear of the shaft.

However, you can buy a grease needle that you can attach to the grease gun and you jab it into the grease fitting and pump. These are used in the double cardon joints and sometimes you need this to grease ball joints. Under $20

Re: How to grease u-joint?

The new napa severe duty ujoints have the grease fitting in one of the caps. Problem solved.
