help alt wont charge

My bat light came on earlier so i drove home and replaced the alternator with one i had at home. started the truck up, still doesnt charge, checked power at the b+ terminal, good, ground good but no power at the 1 wire connector. first thing i did next was replaced the fuse, still no power. looked on the diagram i have from shopkey, and since i have my stock pcm, replaced it. still no luck. i have power coming to the fuse and the trouble chart is no help. hopefully someone here can so i can get to work tomorrow.

Re: help alt wont charge

its not the alternator, its the pcm. i had the same exact problem. to test take a jumper wire and jump out the generator of the alternator(or the switch). it should be the red wire with the harness. watch your gauge and if power jumps up to 14v then you know your alternators fine. jump it off the ignition just for testing purposes

Re: help alt wont charge

I just had this happen a couple of months ago. My alternator died and I didn't notice until my battery light came on. By that time I had already drained my battery so bad that I couldn't get it to take a charge, so I had to replace it too.

Is it possible that the spare you had could coincidentally be bad too? Take them to your local Advance or Autozone, you can get them tested and at least rule out possibilities.

Re: help alt wont charge

I hate buying anything with Napa's name on it. It seems to always be shit for some reason, at least that's my luck with Napa stuff.

Glad you got it all sorted out anyway.
