Fuel Guage

Just wondering my fuel gauge isn't working i've dropped about 60 bucks and drove 150 KM and my gauge is reading empty. Once when i shut it off it went to 1/2 and then when i started it went to empty. is this a sending unit problem? If so where is it and how can i fix it. Oh yeah the goof before me cut a hole in the bed to replace the fuel pump and now it has a tap door. humm maybe not a goof after all. anyways let me know where the sending unit is so i can at least check the wires. All other gauges work and i really need the fuel one to works since i sit in traffic a lot and can' t really go by the tripometer. thanks everyone.
