Disconnected AC compressor

So I was having this issue where the AC was coming on for all settings, not just the defroster. Not sure why this was happening, but I figured I would go ahead and just disconnect the electrical to the compressor for the winter. Could this damage it in any way? I thought maybe I would plug it in once in a while and run the AC a little.

Re: Disconnected AC compressor

I have ran across tons of vehicles like that and most are still running to this day... so as from what I know.., this shouldn't hurt anything to disconnect wires from compressor....

as for the issue..., u may wanna check into the ac compressor switch near the evap..OR the actual switch inside the vehicle... either one can cause the ac compressor to stay on.....

Re: Disconnected AC compressor

just unplug it at the clutch. it will not hurt anything. it just will not come on. in the winter the a/c will help with defrost because it pulls out the moisture.

what year?

Re: Disconnected AC compressor

My_nightmare - how would I diagnose if one of these switches was causing the problem or not? Sorry I've never worked on this kind of issue before.

Re: Disconnected AC compressor

a 99 runs through the bcm so it could be bad or a switch panel. you would have to hook up a tech2 to find out.

Re: Disconnected AC compressor

Not sure how to diagnosis the issue, however there is a plug that goes into the receiver / dryer, unplug that and you should be all good to go. The plug is the sensor for the pressure switch / low coolant switch in the dryer, if its not connected the system should not work... I will post a picture of it later when I get home from work...
