Customization to S-10's?
This is probably a dumb question, just because this is a site for the vehicle, but why does it seem so many people customize their S-10s? Not just like a few things, but like how some of you go all out on it. Granted, the S-10 is a good truck, but why the S-10?

Re: Customization to S-10's?
they're cheap, they have a huge aftermarket and they are pretty simple to work on.
but single cab fullsize chevy's are more abundant than S10's at shows now, atleast down here. |

Re: Customization to S-10's?
because the aftermarket is so strong behind them...many people like the looks, chevy loyalty..could be any of a number of things.
why are people so adamant about ****ing mustangs? |

Re: Customization to S-10's?
looks and a stout motor sold me on a stock one, then I just got into improving it, and it just takes over your life, lol.
For me, it's to create a car that doesn't exist, a fast, loud, 2 seater hatch that can carry a futon, firewood, or whatever fits in it.. For me, my blazer is like a really big unrefined VW golf that's RWD that's cheap and easy to work on. My car is tailored to my life right now, I like going fast and never have to drive more than 1 person anywhere, and can move things easily(like my drums, and amps). So I basically have a 2 seater race car and a truck with cargo top in 1 vehicle. |

Re: Customization to S-10's?
I agree with Daveman2 these trucks have such a aftermartet following them that you can taylor it to just about any lifestyle. for instance mine is NOT pretty but I live out in the Woods where there is ALOT of cops cuz its a small town. so you cant go speeding around. thats why i got rid of my camaro. but there is an abundance of dirt trails and dirt roads to have ALOT of fun with. without getting a ticket.

And when some people customize them, it seems the logos/names are removed, so how can you tell the difference? |

Re: Customization to S-10's?
I think that they are so popular is the fact that they have used the same chassis on the S10's from day one. they are one of the easiest trucks that you can mod or bag. there are so many kits out there that you can buy for S10s to bag them. as everyone else says, the aftermarket industry for S10s is crazy. the fact that so many parts interchange on them is a huge factor too. small bolt pattern wheels is a plus too. you could just keep going on. There just one of the baddest minis ever made period.

Re: Customization to S-10's?
I picked the S10 as I have always liked the styling and it is small enough to put the weight after the LS1 swap just where I want it.

Once I add a rollpan it will be another 3" shorter, which I am looking forward too, it should be hard to back up into something, it will be right at the back window ![]() |

had an '89 s15 for a while(could kick self in head for getting rid of it) and now I'll be keeping my '02 crewcab for a while. Gotta keep saving up $$ to fix it the way I want. |

Re: Customization to S-10's?
For the price its a nice smaller truck with a huge aftermarket.Easy to shove a small block in your wallet is the only true limit to these trucks.Only problem i ever had with one is 6'2 260lbs in a standard cab is a tight fit for me.

Re: Customization to S-10's?
Driving an S-10 beats paying the inflated prices for insurance that come with a Camaro or Firebird, the other two most logical choices for a late model vehicle for a project.
And if you want a late model project vehicle that is light weight, has a frame, rear wheel drive AND you want it to be GM...well the S-10 is your only choice. |

Re: Customization to S-10's?
Great gas milege
But performance wise is usually always the same thing. One might ask why go down to the rockers and valve springs and after all that money you coulda put a v8 in it instead. Why spend a grand doing a DIY turbo? Im actualy looking at doing a S/C. But people do it because you do not see many non-aspirated s10's. Their fun lil trucks |

Re: Customization to S-10's?
great points from all. From a novice just doing some rims and a paint job to an expert doing full race truck anyone can work on it! I dont make alot of money (like most people right now) and dont see buying a corvette in the foreseeable future but if you do it right you'll be able to spank some corvettes or mustangs or whatever for way cheaper and have fun doing it cause you built it yourself and you know every nut and bolt on it!

Re: Customization to S-10's?
ive always loved s10s, my friend got my hooked on them when he had his back in high school, was a blue 94 xcab with a 5/6 static on it and ive had the itch ever since, that was 7 years ago
i think theyre great because they are truly the definition of a modern day hot rod, there really isnt anything that cant or hasnt already been done to them, and theyre one of the last full frame RWD vehicles around that doesnt weigh as much as a bus smooth lines and good looks, many many different factory packages and options, durable, a dream to work on, cheap, huge aftermarket.... in my opinion its the perfect vehicle |

Re: Customization to S-10's?
To me the s10 is a great vehicle. Where i live sometimes a 4x4 is a must and the s10 is pretty darn capable in stock form. It also gives someone like me (paraplegic) the ability to get a 4x4 truck. I cant get into a full-size and the s10 is a piece of cake. Add the way it looks into the mix and you have the perfect pickup. Mine is a 94 4x4 with 118k on it and still going strong. and finding parts is not going to break the bank. plus adding power if the 4.3 ever dies will be easy

I like mine because it cleans up well and I get comments on it and it is almost bone stock. It is great on fuel (2.2 5 spd) and fun to drive year round.

they share the same bolt pattern as some older muscle cars. that's pretty cool in itself.
