AC orfice 2001 s-10

Does anyone know where the orfice is located in the ac lines on this truck? I was told it is inside the line down low on the passenger side going from the condensor core to the filter/dryer. I have only worked on a few auto ac systems and those all had expansion valves.
Thanks

It's in the lower line going into the bottom of the evaporator. I went out and took a couple of pics for you...

Hope this helps you!

I dont agree...

it should be in the line before the accumulator, after the condensor, but right before the accumulator. It is in the line(the top one in, not the bottom one going out as pictured) , and you will see some small crimps in the line where it is held inside.

the purpose of the accumulator is to catch/stop any liquid that gets through the orifice tube, from getting into the evaporator, casue then it gets into the a/c compressor. the orifice tube casues the liquid refrigerant to turn to a gas.

My 2002 manual (helms) shows it as the lower line going into bottom of the evaporator.

I just replaced my a/c compressor, dryer, and orifice tube at the start of summer and the orifice tube was in the lower line going into the evaporator as I showed above. My truck is a 2000 and I can't imagine bigmC993's 2001 is any different.

Re: AC orfice 2001 s-10

Well I changed the orfice ( thanks again for your help) and the accumulator and didn't have a vacuum pump so charged it and it holds pressure normally on the low side about 50 but is well below suggested pressure on the high side about 1/2 or less normal. And it still does not cool. It still seems that there is no flow of the refrigerant even though the compressor clutch clicks on and makes no unusual noises. And it does not leak because the pressure is still the same a week later. Could the compressor be worn out inside (190,000mi) or maybe the evaporator is clogged? There was a lot oil in the line when I removed the orfice. Do you think just pumping it down and recharging it will do the trick? Thanks for any help.

Re: AC orfice 2001 s-10

If the suction is high and discharge is low.........sounds like the compressor.
