98 s10 won't start in cold weather

Ok i have a 98 s10 2.2 5spd. I live in oklahoma, i go to work around 4 pm and get off around 2-3 am. Car starts up fine when i go to work, but when i get off it won't start. (A lot colder at 3am.) The engine cranks over just fine, but won't start. My egr tube is cracked so i figured maybe it was sucking in cold air? I also bought some HEET, but that didn't solve anything. Any ideas.?

Weak coils could cause it also. Never had it on my 2.2's but had a 4.3 I had put an Accel coil in it and when it got below a certain temp it wouldn't start. If it was above freezing it was fine.

Have you checked your coils?

Update on this? My 98 2.2 wont start either...just had the crank sensor replaced and it seemed to work fine for a couple days but today was REALLY cold and the problem persists!

Did you ever check your coils as I suggested a year ago?

Re: 98 s10 won't start in cold weather

dist cap allowing moisture in? something is either killing spark, or you have a weak fuel pump that can't pull enough pressure when it's cold.

try starting it with a shot of carb cleaner. if it starts, you have a fuel delivery problem
pull the plugs and see if they're covered with gas when the no-start occurs. if they're wet, you have no spark.

Hey I wanted to add to this cause my s10 is having the same problems. I bought mine off my sgt, which he brought it from California. It has never seen cold weather, but the coils in it are brand new, spark plugs are new and wires are new. I still have the California emissions on it and my Sgt chopped the exhaust right at the passenger rear tire. Any ideas on what it could be???

Try some dry gas. You could have some freezing water in the fuel line or injectors

I just bought a 98 2.2 5 speed and it's doing the same thing every sensor coil, coil control module have been replaced re ran grounds done the wiggle wires test new computer, everything I can think of I've thrown at this thing and when it's below around 40 outside it won't start, it's a spark issue getting fuel to the cylinders
