94 s10 steering column horn problems

Hello all. I have a 94 chevy s10 and im wondering if the steering column from a 95 to 97 s10 or blazer would work in my truck because for 1) I dont like the 94 steering column LOL and 2) the horn works but i have to take the horn cover off and stick a screwdriver or something such as that for the horn to blow. What is it missing? It doesnt work when I press down on it for the horn to blow I have never torn a steering column apart before so all answers, advice, help, and pictures will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Not without changing a bunch of other things. I prefer the round columns myself. Sounds like you're missing the horn contact, wire, and retainer.

That ones pricey though, I'd grab one from the junkyard.

might get lucky and find the horn button/wiring online already. I see them every now and then in junk yards as well.

Pop off the center of the steering wheel and there's a hole that the spring and retainer slide into and then I believe you push it in then turn it a half turn so it stays in. The other end of the wire plugs into the back of the center of the wheel/horn button.

Then you'll have to either rig it up to work or swap back to the correct wheel.

They're cheap at the junkyard. It doesn't necessarily have to be an S10 wheel either.

Re: 94 s10 steering column horn problems

my bad 94 didn't have the air bag........ so they used the same wheel for the 94 as they did in 93 i'm guessing.

Re: 94 s10 steering column horn problems

Actually, I think the wheel may have been 94 only, but it's similiar to 93 and older and the steering column is similiar as well. But the wheels are interchangeable.

Re: 94 s10 steering column horn problems

if its a GM, and it has a round column, then chances are that the wheel is interchangeable. so long as it is not an air bag wheel, but evensome of those have the same spline count.

even so, when i got my 93 i used my GRANT wheel adapter from my 89 Dakota, bolted right up splines matched just didn't have a horn.

Older columns may be the same but they mount to the firewall differently
