2 grand lemon. what would u do?

hey whats up guys, im kinda frustrated with my truck at the moment. heres whats goin on:

bought for $2150
95 ext cab s10 4.3 5 speed (nv3500) 176,000 miles
came with 3 extra wheels with all season tires on them that the guy was using for winter.

what ive had to do already:
PS pump 50
Serp. Belt 25
Tensioner pulley 18
Idler pulley 19
Efan to replace
bad fan clutch 50
Fuel tank 73
fuel sender 50

still needs:
idler arm
1 tie rod end
upper balljoints
oil cooler lines
battery

then today i was driving it and i figured out the clutch slips if u floor it in 4th goin 25. i was told that was one way to test a clutch. that cant be normal can it?

so now ive got 2600 bucks into this thing, and it might need a clutch. should i just give up and drive it till it blows up? would u put more money into it at this point?

any input is appreciated.
thanks!

It's not a lemon. Those are basically things that are routinely replaced after time.

Finish fixing it. The remaining stuff is easy to do. Idler arm & tie rod end are cheap. The ball joints are easy, oil cooler lines too.
A careful test drive and quick inspection would have turned up alot of this stuff, but you must have noticed some of it.

thats the weird part, is that it didnt have most of the problems when i test drove it. seems like stuff just keeps going wrong. i guess its not really that bad, especailly because i can do all the work myself, and buy parts at a discounted price at work. and as far as the clutch, its not a problem unless i drive like a mad man. i just got discouraged when i thought about it all at once.

thanks guys!!

Well, look at it this way, once you get that basic routine stuff fixed, it should be good to go. You have the "Z" engine with TBI which pretty much lasts forever. It's also a common engine and easy to work on.

Re: 2 grand lemon. what would u do?

I have to echo everyone else's sentiments... it's not a lemon it's just an old truck. Trust me so far you've gotten off pretty easy... get back to me when you need to replace the intake mainfold gaskets, heatercore, and rebuild your transmission Valve body... I have had to do all of this on my wife's Bravada. My truck so far just a rear main seal, a clutch (unfortunately two completely separate repairs), Alternator, Battery, ECU, and all kinds of other little piddily crap.

Ahh the joy of not having a car payment...

Edit:

Oh and FWIW My wife's Bravada: $2200 My truck: $1200 both paid in cash.

Re: 2 grand lemon. what would u do?

Ditto to all of that....especially paying too much. Sounds to me like its worth 1200 bucks. But still its better than car payments and if you fix all that crap you can probably get another 10 years out of it.

Re: 2 grand lemon. what would u do?

I say you did overpay somewhat. FOr continuingto fix it I would say if the body and frame are in good condition I would spend the next~$300 and finish the repairs. Did you know it had all these problems when you bought it?

Re: 2 grand lemon. what would u do?

Whether its worth continuing to spend money on is your call honestly. If the motor and trans are in good shape, and the frame/body are solid still, its not a lost cause yet.

I had to actually INSTALL my whole wire harness and basically everything that goes in the engine bay on my S10, so when you look at the grand scheme of things, its not really THAT bad honestly.
