1996 S10 dash help!!?

Ok this is a stupid question i have but the LOWER part of the dash on my 1996 S10 pickup i am going to the junkyard to get a new pannel where the parking brake is at. (beacuse mine is destroyed.)

the question is how do you keep the emergency brake from holding it on.

its a hard question to ask.

it isn't exactly the dash its that pannel directly below that lil strip if anyone has any questions i will send u a link to the picture.

The brake release should be screwed in just below the handle, then you have to look under the dash and remove the brake cable from a clip (The cable doesn't run directly from the handle to the brake).
You should be able to see it as soon as you look under the dash.

i didn't see anything under it. from the front of the dash i dunno if its in and under?, but I'm just wanting to know so i can rip one out of another truck nothing fancy or neat

i figured i would end up having to destroy the brake release. or something.

The e-brake release handle is part of that lower dash panel. When you remove that lower dash panel it comes off with it, the cable detaches from the pedal assembly and slides out through a hole in the dash frame to completely remove that panel. If you look at the top of the pedal you will see that the cable just has a small ball at the end of it that pops out of a small slot on the very top.

To get that panel off you will have to remove the black under-dash panel to expose the lower bolts holding the panel on, then remove the four bolts hidden in the front of it. Disconnect the cable as I mentioned above, slide the cable out and out the panel should come. If you're going to the junkyard to get a new panel it should come with the handle attached to it.
