its not too hard. just pick up a thing of r134a and all of the instructions on how to do it are right on the bottle. i recharged mine last year after i changed out my ac compressor. just make sure to read the instructions a few times maybe, it explains it all. the port that you will need to hook into is on the evaporater, the big cylinder looking thing by the passenger tire.

Re: WOuld like some info on rechargin AC UNIT

please have a shop do it....i recently got certified in heating and AC and have learned alot of things...if you dont have a set of gauges and just add r134...you could cause serious problems to the system....just b/c it doesn't blow cold doesn't mean its just low on refridgerent...

not tryin to put you down or anything....but theres alot more to AC than the average person knows....if you really want AC that bad...and want it to last...have a shop do it please

I agree with the directly above. If you don't know WTF you are doing, you will mess something up. I know it's cheap doing it yourself, but without a guage or knowing how to do the job, you are asking for trouble.

Are you talking about the big metal typ cylinder that is to the right of the enger computer and to the left of the engine it self ? looks like a bottle rocket ?
the part that gets real cold when the ac is on

sounds like the evaporator isn't getting enough air on it at idle, not low freon

i had the same problem and it turned out to be the clutch fan so I put in an electric fan and never had a problem since

it was ice cold on the highway but when i got off it would warm down a bit and then when i stoped it got warmer but not too too warm just warm so i think that might be the problem is the fan flutch somthing that i could replace easily myself or is it realy hard to do ?

Re: WOuld like some info on rechargin AC UNIT

i just asked my mechanic what the presure should be he said that all depends on the temp outside during the day
he said first to make sure i have 2 pound of refridrent in there but he had to go work on a car real fast so i was wondering how do i check the pounds can you do that with the guage you get on the recharge kits ?

Re: WOuld like some info on rechargin AC UNIT

You cannot check correctly with the recharge kits. Normal manifolds with guages show specific pressures and based on outside temperatures you can determine wether or not you are low. Plus, refridgerant doesn't just go away or disappear, so you may need to check for a leak.

Re: WOuld like some info on rechargin AC UNIT

Sounds to me like they need to evacuate the system completely to figure out how much refrigerant is even in it. Then charge it but this time put some ac dye in it. Drive it until it starts to do that again and have them look at it. The ac dye will tell if there is a leak somewhere.

Re: WOuld like some info on rechargin AC UNIT

check your local www.craigslist.org. Or ask you buddy at the parts store for a referral. I found local guy that charged up my 83 pickup for $35. He had gauges. I bought the R134 cans.

sounds like the fan to me, mine did exactly that when the clutch wasn't engaging on the fan to turn it at slow speeds or idle
