Re: why dont i have A/C?
That's how my 96 felt. *Nothing* when you turn on the AC - no lag feeling from the compressor kicking on.
My compressor used to be kind of whiny and the air never really blew very cold. I bought one of the R-134a recharge kits with a gauge on it and put the whole can in today. Now it blows somewhat cool. The can wasn't very expensive, and you can buy "refill" cans that hook to the gauge/hose thingy. Of course, I haven't figured out *why* the AC system was basically void of refrigerant.. and probably needs yet another can.. but if it lasts a few years, eh, it's cheaper than finding a rebuilt compressor and/or condenser, etc. There are dye kits and I think they sell "leak finder" versions of the recharge kit where you can go over it with a UV light and see where it's leaking out. |

Re: why dont i have A/C?
you can also findout if it's leaking by charging it and waiting a few days, then unscrew the refill cap and push the ball in for a half of a second. if it has alot of pressure behind it you don't have a leak, but if it barely comes out you have a problem somewhere. that will save the money for the dye just incase you don't have any leaks. don't over charge the system though, from what i hear it's really bad for the for the whole system.
i have the same problem on my jimmy, i don't mind not having a/c but i hate having my daughter in there when it's over 100. i charged mine last week and it blew cold for about a day, and now my compressor is making a knocking noise, and all my lines are hot when they should be freezing cold. i would say a compressor is what i need. good luck! |

Re: why dont i have A/C?
these vehicles are very common to have a leaky compressor or a compressor that wont turn on. that is the most likely culpret to all above.

Re: why dont i have A/C?
mine is dead now and I just spent the cash to have GM look at it. Ended up being a bad fuse block. Not at all a cheap fix, but if I wiggle the relay up/down/left/right it will kick on for a couple seconds then turn back off.
