Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

I think they look hideous. The older mirrors were much more aerodynamic and sleek looking. The new mirrors do not fit the vehicle right and have a horrible shape. I ordered a pair of older mirrors to be painted and put on.

Haha seriously guise? What makes you like them? How do they appeal to you?

I bet if the older ones were the newer ones, you'd all be head over heals for those instead.

Re: Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

Had I known you wanted the older style I would have GLADLY traded you. I HATE the dumbo style ones with a passion. That was the worst part of the design of the 94-early 98 trucks. The newer mirror is better but is still way too big to look sporty. Cal Vue mirrors look the best. I'm looking to pick up a set of power/heated newer style mirrors to put on my Jimmy.

Oh well, too late, I ordered a pair last night. Although I guess since these are aftermarket maybe they wont break. I don't understand how they would break so easily but they do. Cal-Vue, if those are those short/wide boxy old tahoe looking mirrors then those look the worst IMHO.

Well...
1. Maybe the aftermarket ones will not break or rattle. (How BTW, carwash or what?)
2. I am painting them blue to match
3. The newer ones look way to bulky and akward IMO
4. See 1.

The 94-97 look so much better than the 98+ for the exact reasons you listed.

And yes, the aftermarket versions are much stronger than the OEM ones. The OEMs would start to get weak, they aftermarket ones (the ones I've used: perfectfit/cool-vue) will stay strong. This is one of the rare times where aftermarket is made better than OEM (in strength, but the fit will be off a tad bit, you'll see).

Yup, I replaced mine with aftermarket versions, been over two years and they show no signs of rattling. And I don't baby the truck at all.

Re: Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

I swapped for the newer ones. I like the bigger mirror and they are built much better than the older ones. When I tried to fold in my older ones it felt like they were going to break. If I remeber right the newer ones fold closer to the body too which helps me fit in tight spots on the trail.

Re: Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

Yeah, I swapped mine out. The plugs are different for the power mirror. You need to cut your old plug off of the mirror and swap it to the new one. The color wires are different so you gotta figure out which is which.

Re: Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

I only like the new style when they're color matched. They also seem to suit the lifted 4x4s but still look kinda akward on the lowered. My truck came with the first style n was gettin HORRIBLE fuel mileage! Im all about the Street Scene Cal-vu's.

You have to have them painted yourself.

Not sure about your second question.

Re: Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

Envoys were the only S trucks to ever have factory color matched mirrors and even then it was only the outer part. The part that bolts to the door was still black.

If you don't have heated mirrors currently, you won't have wiring in the truck to make them work so no heated mirrors for you!

Re: Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

Newer mirrors are way better. I have trucks with both. Older mirrors look gay and they flop around. Newer ones fold in, are heated, power, and generally look way freaking better.

Re: Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

The older style can be heated and power as well. My 98 Jimmy has the old style mirrors but they do suck as the drivers side vibrates a lot. Street Scene Cal Vue's are my favorite though but they don't fold in.

No good close ups but Cal Vue's on both trucks.

you can probably find a set of SS cal vu's used (non powered) for around $40. They're like the only aftermarket pieces ive been actually happy with on my truck...

Re: Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

The thing with power mirrors, how often do you REALLY adjust them? I rarely do once I get them set where I want them. I spent a FORTUNE on my Xtreme mirrors because I wanted to keep the power/heated feature that the factory ones had. Boy was that a waste of money!

Re: Who else hates the newer style mirrors?

Has anyone else noticed any distortion in the drivers side, newer style? I recently bought an 03 and thought I noticed it a bit. Or is it just my imagination?

As far as the new/old debate, on my 85 S10 Blazer and 97 van with the mirror body separated from the vehicle, like the old style mirrors are, I get ALOT of bugs splattered on the side glass when on the highway because of the gap between the mirror body and the window.
