Thumbs down whats up with dealerships these days?

So yeah, its a little story and rant about how dealerships suck donkey balls!

I drop my 00 Jimmy off at the local GMC dealership to get a wheel hub bearing replaced. The dumb lady calls me back around ten saying the whole front end of the truck shot! I was like WTF! She claims that i didnt grease all the ball joints and tie rod ends, which i do all the time when i change the oil. Then the warranty place *millenium* wants me to produce receipts of work done, so i told them i do the basic maintance work on it. so from now on i have to keep a freakin log and all the reciepts on stuff purchases. I just hate how this 00 with only 72k miles on it can give me so many damn problems, when my 94 never let me down and had no where near as much BS. This is the second time for wheel bearing,

i should have done the work my self but 2500 dollar bill isnt my doin, so the $100 deductable makes it all worth it i guess...

*steps off soap box*

so to sum it up, keep a eye on your ball joints, and wheel bearings, they seem to like to go early on the newer trucks..

Yep for some reason the 4wd wheel hubs like to go alot these days.

And it must have been mighty slow up there at dealership cause you can tell when they told you the front end was shot that they were huntin for work.

Re: whats up with dealerships these days?

yeah the warranty has def. paid for its self, but like some one said its like they are searching for shit to fix, and then she has the nerv to tell me i dont want to put any money into the truck/safety.. i told her you guys just want my money besides my deductable.. it just sucks cause there are no good deelerships around this part of RI, so i just take it to where i bought it.. and wait for the damage on the cell phone..

lol.. they just tried to tell me i need new pads, when i just looked at them and they have a good two-three months left.. not even close to noise clip...

money hungry!

Re: whats up with dealerships these days?

hey if it being paid for what's the problem? maybe the receptionist told you the wrong way but those mechanics are flat rate and get paid by the job your truck comes in under warranty with some easy work i would have tried to sell the whole front end too
thats how mechanics make their money buy upselling the cars that are given to them your truck just made some mechaincs day i bet a whole days pay in one vehicle that he can finish before lunch

Re: whats up with dealerships these days?

I just replaced my wheel bearings on my 01 S10 about 2 months ago and my bearings looked fine. Not really any bad wearing or anything. I have 2WD though.

Re: whats up with dealerships these days?

yeah i guess the 4x4 front hub bearings go bad often, cause i called and asked to talk to the mechanic to see just how bad everything was..

i guess the driver side ball joint where worn pretty bad, the pass. upper joint had metal shavings in the grease? told him i shoot grease in them every time i change the oil .. since my expierence with the S-10..
also if i remeber right he mentions something about how there is no or not much of a seal on the inner part of the hub to keep road grime and what not out of the bearing..

well anyways.. good news, i get the jimmy back wednesday or thursday

and thats why most dealerships have the reputation they do...... and most people would NEVER bring a car or truck back to them because of there reputation for screwin the customer

Re: whats up with dealerships these days?

hey i had to make a living and the warranty company paid for it not the customer and they all needed the work most people dont check their ball joints and tie rod ends on a regular basis so when they bring the car in for service we check it out and replace the parts they need

Re: whats up with dealerships these days?

I'd bet money they didn't do half the work they charged for too. Dealers love to screw the aftermarket warranty companies. And you can bet if you'd been taking it to the dealer for routine service, those ball joints and ends would never get greased anyway. I could write a book about our dealer service on our last new Blazer and it would read like a horror story. The killer was the sawdust in the radiator trick for a coolant leak, under factory warranty at the time too. I feel sorry for decent mechanics who have to do this crap in the dealerships to keep their job.

Re: whats up with dealerships these days?

yeah they put new parts in for what i could see.. they did charge the warranty place 30 bucks for coolant.. and it wasnt even topped off.. and i think they forgot to tighten something cause something clunks under there when i hit a bump.. pretty bad i could have done the work myself just didnt cause i paid the cash for the warranty and all

i dont know what dealership you went to but i was and am going to be a mechanic at a dealership again and i have never seen anything like that, the goal is to fix it right the first time because no mechanic wants a come-back they dont get paid to fix a problem more than once so that is the incentive to do it right the first time

If you don't like the dealerships work go to a gas station garage im sure the quality of their work will be up to your standards

Re: whats up with dealerships these days?

I'm not impressed at all with what I've seen at the last two dealerships we've had service from. And actually the local gas stations, BP ProCare for one, have some excellent x-dealer mechanics who got sick of it and went the independent route. We (me and the wife) sure miss Oldsmobile, had several and the local dealer was top notch. And the sawdust pills in the radiator deal is fact, I'm not making it up, two year old Blazer at 18K miles. I'm stil in shock. Hope you do get hooked up with a respectable dealer and your career is a good one, Lord knows that with GM's current problems they do need some positive customer service. Anyway, sounds like the dubster got his machine up and running right at least.

Sounds like you just went to a couple bad dealerships.

I've never heard the saw dust trick in the radiator but there is large peices of stop leak that looks just like compressed sawdust that we use.

But you run the risk of getting crap work done anywhere you go. The only way to make sure it gets done right is to do it yourself.
