What Is This - Photo Inside

Found this on the ground just under the drivers side door close to the tire. It was found in the garage area so it more than likly came from the Blazer It looks like a spring of some sort, I think there may have been a hook and the other end that broke off. Car seems to drive fine. I have a 1995 Blazer LT 4x4 4 Door. Thanks!

Re: What Is This - Photo Inside

I checked the hood and it doesnt have any springs on it except the main one in the front. I dont think it came for a seat or matress because it has a lot of rust on it. Thanks for the replies!

Ya, thats one thing I thought of, it was found right under the parking brake line, but the line is still connected and the brake seems to operate normally. I dunno.

Does it release with a snap or does it just ease off?

What do you mean?

BTW: The spring is about 4-5 inches long. The Blazer is actually an LS, not an LT if that means anything. Thanks.

Muffler spring.
It connects next to the bearing housing and reduces Rf gain through body mount adjuster rod.
Replace this right away, go to any NAPA store and ask for one.
With the LS model, you'll need a green one.

Looks like the spring underneath the seat that runs from the bottom of the seat to the rear of the seat bracket/mount. Do you have power seats or manual adjustable seats?

When on an incline, you should always use your e-brake to help stop some of the weight from going all on the parking pawl. If you snap that pin, there is nothing else to prevent the vehicle from rolling to a surely bad ending. A guy had a suburban, parked it on a very slight incline, put it in park, didn't set the e-brake... pawl failed, and vehicle slowly rolled back into another parked car. Very embarassing!

Basically the e-brake serves two purposes when you are in the "Park" position (and a third when driving). It will provide a fail-safe in the event the parking pawl fails. And it will take some stress off of the parking pawl, thus extending it's service life.

To test this, park on a (slight) incline. Do not set the ebrake, but put the transmission in "Park". Now take your foot off the brake and feel the vehicle roll back and stop due to the parking prawl -- all that weight is being held by that small pin! Now drive forward a bit and set your e-brake. Now place it in "Park" and let off the brake. Now the vehicle stays put without the big roll/stop. The weight is now shared by the parking prawl and the e-brake. As it was designed.
