Wait for me tune
Well after searching the fourm i deduced that this is the way to go. Some questions though, do you remove your ecm and send it in? if you do than you just dont have your vehicle for a week? just need some questions answered.

Re: Wait for me tune
It's my understanding that you can send in your PCM to be tuned and then your truck would be out of commission until it comes back or you can buy a tuned PCM from them as well but then you may need to have a crankshaft relearn procedure done buy a capable shop.

Re: Wait for me tune
00s104.3's right... my truck runs great with their tune... I had them lower idle...raise shift points...torque management...and 93 octane tune...

Re: Wait for me tune
It's less expensive to send yours in. I parked my Jimmy for a week. The tune is great! I gained about 1 mpg in the city. 2-3 on the highway. My Jimmy can cruise 80 MPH and get 20 MPG. At 70, it can get 22-23. I like the tune. Especially the torque management reduction. I had it reduced 75%. Shifts are great. Accelleration is better too. The rev limiter goes higher on shifts. Best $86 spent on my Jimmy!!
I still have the document I sent in with my PCM. If you want a copy send me your e-mail address. You can update information on it and send it. Last edited by gchemist : 10-21-2009 at 01:03 AM. |

Re: Wait for me tune
That sounds pretty good. What grade of fuel did you have it tuned for? |

Re: Wait for me tune
I use 87 octane. The difference in city milage is torque converter lock up. In Blazers and Jimmys, the converter is really loose. I could drive for miles on the highway before it would lockup. Sometimes, I had to slow down then speed up slowly to get it to lock. The tune changes how the converter behaves. The converter is locked above 45 MPH if the tranny is in OD. The same goes for driving in 3rd. Removal of the rev limit changed accelleration. The engine can rev past 5000 RPMs before shifting! First gear is really fun. It's even better for S-10 trucks.
Higher octane gas has better improvements. |

Re: Wait for me tune
Torque management is only a GM technical term. Engines with torque management change how an engine and tranny act. The PCM reduces timing during the shift. Trannys are shifted "smooth" by reducing line pressure. Reducing the management keeps timing at engine RPMs. Oil line pressure is increased for firmer and faster shifts. 75% is the recommendation. Anything more and the tranny will shift too hard for the street. A high milage tranny wont live long either. You can request a lower reduction rate, like 50%.

Re: Wait for me tune
Higher mileage won't last long @ 75%? I'm going to get this done on my Blazer but don't really know what all to have done.

Re: Wait for me tune
Reducing torque management above 75%+ for a stock tranny could shorten its life. Especially a high milage tranny. For my piece of mind, I added an external oil cooler.
