Unwanted Heat from floor vents

I've got a '99 blazer. When the system is off and the engine is warm, the floor vents on both sides emit heat from them. I have tried riding with the system off and the temperature control (red and blue knob) to cold. Didn't help. When I have the top vents on (a/c or heat) it sucks in air through the same passage. I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and/or if anyone knows what causes it or how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Re: Unwanted Heat from floor vents

yeah i think they all do that to vent the engine compartment and keep air moving in the cockpit. if you want, set your adjustment to the head only setting and close all the vents in your dash. the heads only setting should flow minimal cold air if you have it set to cold when the system is off, and closing the vents will keep like 90% of it out. that is what i have found works the best.

Doesn't really make sense to me that they would vent hot air into the cabin. But I'll give that a try, thanks for the quick response. And pay attn in intersections.

no prob. it has always pissed me off that turning the air off doesn't turn it off. stupid design but i guess the felt the need to keep air moving in the cabin for some reason. and yeah, that intersection is the stupidest thing i have ever done....period.

Re: Unwanted Heat from floor vents

trust me, this is a problem with pretty much EVERY s10 ever made. they all do this, and in the summer it is sooooo annoying. there's not much you can do about it using the controls, but Dave (aka avtekk) is putting together a how-to on stopping this from happening. i can't remember exactly what causes, i think something to do with the vacuum line, but it can be stopped. just wait it out till Dave posts the how to and then we'll never have to hear about this again.

there is a fix for this on s-10crewcab.com I think the address is. Has something to do with the automatic climate controls in more expensive models
