How much fluid do our trannys take and is it easy to change (like with very few tools)? Thanks.

Re: tranny fluid
Should hold 5 qts. It's not a real difficult job but it is messy as hell. You take off the pan bolts and the pan is stuck on, so you pry the pan loose and fluid goes everywhere. Put down lots of newspapers on the floor or do it somewhere that you don't mind getting oily.

Re: tranny fluid
The pan holds 5 however if the system is dry it holds close to 12.

Re: tranny fluid
Here's a tip that I forgot to mention:
Like I said, when you take out the bolts, the pan will be stuck to the tranny. Leave 2 bolts in on one side and leave them loose - about 1/4". Pry the pan from the opposite side and the pan will tilt toward the open side. That way it doesn't all come out at once in your face and you control the flow to one side. Gradually loosen the bolts to let more out. When you feel that you can remove the pan without sloshing any excess fluid, remove the bolts and just dump the rest that is in the pan. |

Re: tranny fluid
Thanks for the tips guys. I gave it a shot last night and ran into a problem. Got all the bolts out, no problem. Pryed the pan loose and drained some fluid, then dropped it about 2 inches. From there I was stuck. The pan rests on a crossover piece of the exhaust and the transmission support crossmember. There is enough clearance above the exhaust to slide the pan forward, but it's stuck on stuff in side the tranny. If that support memeber was about 1.5 inches further back, it would have been a piece of cake, but even jacking the tranny up a little didnt help. Plus I couldn't move the crossmember because the bolts were rusted on and I couldn't break them loose by hand. Is this another GM mistake with the 95 4x4's or am I just missing something?

Re: tranny fluid
you have to move the cross member.
you may be able to drop the cross over. just be carefull and not to break any of the bole/studs in the manifold install a lift kit and you have to modify your crossover so it makes the trans serv much much easier. |
